Chapter VII   Samuccayasaṅgahavibhāgo（類別之概要）

7.1 序文

Dvāsattatividhā vuttā vatthudhammā salakkhaṇā

Tesaṃ dāni yathāyogaṃ pavakkhāmi samuccayaṃ.

The seventy-two kinds of entities have (already) been described with their characteristics. Now I shall speak of their categories in accordance with their relations.

已說七十二種各別法及其特相。如今我當依它們適合之處說示其類別。

Dvāsattati: (num) 72, seventy-two

Vidha: (m) part, fold; kind, sort; form, measure  部分，種類

Vatti: to speak, say; speak to, address   pp. vutta, utta    aor. avoca  說

Vatthu: (n) substance, object, thing, matter; occasion, cause; story, narrative; base  依處     abl. vatthuto

Dhamma: (m/n) nature, condition, quality, property, characteristic; function, practice, duty; object, thing, idea, phenomenon; doctrine; law; virtue, piety; justice; the law or Truth of Buddha; the Buddhist scriptures; religion  法

Lakkhaṇa: (n) sign, characteristic, mark; esp. a sign as implying something extraordinary or pointing to the future, therefore a prognosticative mark; a distinguishing mark or salient feature, property, quality  相

Salakkhaṇa: (n) own characteristic, that which is consistent with one's own nature      (adj) together with the characteristics  自相，有相

Tesaṃ: (pron) of them, their

Dāni, idāni: (adv) now

Yathāyogaṃ: (adv) accordingly, according to union or relations

Pavakkhati: (fut.) he will tell, declare, recite     1^st sing. pavakkhāmi

Samuccaya: (m) collection, accumulation  類別，集合

列舉類別

Akusalasaṅgaho, missakasaṅgaho, bodhipakkhiyasaṅgaho, sabbasaṅgaho cā ti samuccayasaṅgaho catubbidho veditabbo.

The compendium of categories should be understood as fourfold:

(i) the compendium of the unwholesome,

(ii) the compendium of mixed categories,

(iii) the compendium of requisites of enlightenment, and

(iv) the compendium of the whole.

當知類別之概要有四個部份：

一、不善之概要；

二、混合類別之概要；

三、菩提分之概要；

四、一切之概要。

NOTES

Akusala: (adj) bad, evil, sinful, unhealthful, unwholesome; unskilled  不善

Saṅgaha: (m) taking, collecting; classification, conjunction, assemblage; compilation, abridgement; favor, kindness  概要，分析，組合，攝

Missaka: (adj) mixed, combined

Bodhi: (m/f) the knowledge possessed by a Buddha, supreme or infinite knowledge, omniscient, the Truth; Buddhahood; the supernatural knowledge of an Arhat; a Bodhi tree  菩提

Bodha: (m) knowledge, wisdom, enlightenment; supreme knowledge, Buddhaship

Pakkhiya: (adj) siding with, associated with, belonging to (a party, group, etc.)   (m) part, side; only in phrase (satta-, bodhi-, etc.)

Bodhipakkhiya, -ika, bodhapakkhiya, -ika: (adj) constituting or attributing to the Bodhi (Bodha) or supreme knowledge      

Bodhipakkhiyadhammā: the thirty-seven constituents of supreme knowledge  三十七菩提分法

Sabba: (adj) all, every, whole, entire

Catubbidha: (adj) fourfold

Vidati: to know, ascertain    p.f.p. veditabba: to be known or understood
