1.9 八出世間心(Lokuttara-Cittāni

 

1.9.1 四出世間善心(Lokuttara-kusala-cittāni

 

1. Sotāpatti-maggacittaṃ.

2. Sakadāgāmi-maggacittaṃ.

3. Anāgāmi-maggacittaṃ.

4. Arahatta-maggacittañ cā ti.

Imāni cattāri pi lokuttara-kusalacittāni nāma.

 

 

(Moral Supramundane Consciousness—4)

 

(1) Sotāpatti Path-consciousness,

(2) Sakadāgāmi Path-consciousness,

(3) Anāgāmi Path-consciousness,

(4) Arahatta Path-consciousness.

 

These are the four types of Supramundane Moral consciousness.

 

 

1. 須陀洹道心。

2. 斯陀含道心。

3. 阿那含道心。

4. 阿羅漢道心。

這四種是出世間善心。

 

 

 

NOTES

 

Loka: (m) the world, the universe; mankind; a being or creature

Uttara: (adj) higher, high, superior, upper; northern; subsequent

Lokuttara: (adj) transcending the world, supramundane, spiritual  出世間

Kusala: (adj) skillful, expert, clever; lucky, happy, prosperous; good, right, virtuous, meritorious 

Citta: (n) the mind, the heart; thought, idea; will, intention 

Sota: (m/n) stream, flood, torrent

Āpanna: (pp. āpajjati) entered upon, fallen into

Sotāpanna: (m) one who has entered the stream, one who has attained the first stage of sanctification  須陀洹

Sotāpatti: (f) the state of a Sotāpanna  須陀洹的境界,須陀洹道

Sakadāgāmi: (adj) returning once   (m) one who has entered the second path to Nirvā斯陀含

Anāgāmi: (m) one who does not return, one who has entered the third path to Nirvāa  阿那含

Arahatta: (n) state of being an Arahā, Arhatship  阿羅漢的境界,阿羅漢道

Arahā, Arahaṃ: (m) a venerable person, a holy man, a saint; one who has attained final sanctification, an Arhat  阿羅漢

Magga: (m) path, road; trace, track; course, passage 

Imāni: (pron. n.) these

Cattāri: (n. num) four    (m) cattāro, caturo     (f) catasso

Nāma: (adv) by name; indeed

 

 

 

 

1.9.2 四出世間果報心(Lokuttara-vipāka-cittāni

 

5. Sotāpatti-phalacittaṃ.

6. Sakadāgāmi-phalacittaṃ.

7. Anāgāmi-phalacittaṃ.

8. Arahatta-phalacittañ cā ti.

Imāni cattāri pi lokuttara-vipākacittāni nāma.

Icc' evaṃ sabbathā pi aṭṭha lokuttara-kusala-vipāka-cittāni

samattāni.

 

 

(Resultant Supramundane Consciousness—4)

 

(5) Sotāpatti Fruit-consciousness,

(6) Sakadāgāmi Fruit-consciousness

(7) Anāgāmi Fruit-consciousness

(8) Arahatta Fruit-consciousness.

 

These are the four types of Supramundane Moral and Resultant consciousness.

 

Thus end, in all, the eight types of Supramundane Moral and Resultant consciousness.

 

 

5. 須陀洹果心。

6. 斯陀含果心。

7. 阿那含果心。

8. 阿羅漢果心。

這四種是出世間果報心。

如是總結,一共有八種出世間善與果報心。

 

 

NOTES

 

Vipāka: (m) result, product, consequence; good result, fruit, profit, reward; evil result, retribution  果報

Phala: (n) fruit, grain, crop, produce; result, consequence; reward, profit 

Iti, ti, icc (before a vowel): (adv) thus

Evaṃ: (adv) thus

Sabbathā: (adv) in every way, thoroughly

Aṭṭha: (num) eight

Samatta: (pp) concluded; complete, entire, all

 

 

 

 

1.9.3 出世間心之總結

 

Catumaggappabhedena

Catudhā kusalaṃ tathā

Pākaṃ tassa phalattā’ ti

Aṭṭhadhānuttaraṃ mataṃ.

 

 

Differing according to the four Paths, the Moral Consciousness is fourfold. So are the Resultants, being their fruits. The Supramundane should be understood as eightfold.

 

 

依四道分別,善心有四種,

果報亦如是,故知八無上。

 

 

NOTES

 

Pabheda: (m) difference, distinction; sort, kind  區別

Catudhā: (adv) in four parts, fourfold

Tathā: (adv) so, thus; also

Pāka: (m/n) cooking; ripeness, maturity; result, fulfillment, accomplishment  果報

Atta: (m) that which has been taken up, assumed

Phalatta: (m) bearing fruit

Aṭṭhadhā: (adv) eightfold, in eight ways

Anuttara: (adj) unrivaled, preeminent, incomparable, supreme  無上

Maññati: to think, suppose, imagine, consider, esteem, know, believe, understand    pp. mata

 

 

 

 

1.9.4 諸心之總結

 

Dvādasākusalān' evaṃ

Kusalān' ekavīsati

Chattiṃs' eva vipākāni

Kriyācittāni vīsati.

Catupaññāsadhā kāme

Rūpe paṇṇaras' īraye

Cittāni dvādas' āruppe

Aṭṭhadhā’ nuttare tathā.

 

 

(Summary)

 

Thus the “Immorals” are twelve, the “Morals” are twenty-one, the “Resultants” are thirty-six, the “Functionals” are twenty.

 

In the Sensuous Sphere, they say, are fifty-four types of consciousness, in the Form-Sphere are fifteen, in the Formless-Sphere are twelve, in the Supramundane are eight.

 

 

不善心十二,善心二十一,

果報心卅六,唯作心二十。

欲界五十四,色界心十五,

無色界十二,出世間心八。

Akusala: (adj/n) bad, evil, sinful, unhealthful; unskilled, unable  不善

Ekavīsati: (num) twenty-one

Chattisa: (num) thirty-six

Vīsati: (f. num) twenty

Catupaññāsadhā: (adv) in 54 ways, 54-fold

Kāma: (m) desire, desired object; sensual pleasures, passion, lust 

Rūpa: (n) form, figure, shape; image, representation; the body; beauty; natural state; characteristic 

Paṇṇarasa, pannarasa, pañcadasa: (num) fifteen

Īreti: to cause to utter, say; to cause to move, shake    opt. īraye

Āruppa: (adj) formless, incorporeal, belonging to Arūpabrahmaloka  無色
