1.6 美心(Sobhana-Cittāni

 

Pāpāhetukamuttāni

Sobhanānī ti vuccare

Ekūnasaṭṭhi cittāni

Ath' ekanavutī pi vā

 

 

24 Types of “Beautiful” Consciousness of the Sensuous Sphere

 

Excluding those that are evil and without Hetu, the rest are called “Beautiful”. They number either fifty-nine or ninety-one.

 

 

除惡及無因,餘者皆稱美;

其數五十九,或說九十一。

Ekūnasaṭṭhi: (num) fifty-nine

Citta: (n) the mind, the heart; thought, idea; will, intention 

Atha, atho: (adv) and; also; then; but; now

Eka: (adj) one, single; alone; a certain; the same; chief; unique

Navuti: (f. num) ninety

Ekanavuti: (num) ninety-one

1.6.1 八欲界善心(Aṭṭha Kāmāvacara-kusalacittāni

 

1. Somanassasahagataṃ ñāṇasampayuttaṃ asaṅkhārikam ekaṃ.

2. Somanassasahagataṃ ñāṇasampayuttaṃ sasaṅkhārikam ekaṃ

3. Somanassasahagataṃ ñāṇavippayuttaṃ asaṅkhārikam ekaṃ.

4. Somanassasahagataṃ ñāṇavippayuttaṃ sasaṅkhārikam ekaṃ.

5. Upekkhāsahagataṃ ñāṇasampayuttaṃ asaṅkhārikam ekaṃ.

6. Upekkhāsahagataṃ ñāṇasampayuttaṃ sasaṅkhārikam ekaṃ.

7. Upekkhāsahagataṃ ñāṇavippayuttaṃ asaṅkhārikam ekaṃ.

8. Upekkhāsahagataṃ ñāṇavippayuttaṃ sasaṅkhārikam ekan ti.

Imāni aṭṭha pi sahetuka-kāmāvacara-kusalacittāni nāma.

 

 

(Eight Types of Moral Consciousness)

 

1. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by pleasure, associated with knowledge,

2. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by pleasure, associated with knowledge,

3. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by pleasure, dissociated with knowledge,

4. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by pleasure, dissociated with knowledge,

5. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by indifference, associated with knowledge,

6. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by indifference, associated with knowledge,

7. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by indifference, dissociated with knowledge,

8. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by indifference, dissociated with knowledge.

 

These are the eight types of moral consciousness, with Roots, of the sensuous sphere.

 

 

1. 悅俱、智相應、無行一心。

2. 悅俱、智相應、有行一心。

3. 悅俱、智不相應、無行一心。

4. 悅俱、智不相應、有行一心。

5. 捨俱、智相應、無行一心。

6. 捨俱、智相應、有行一心。

7. 捨俱、智不相應、無行一心。

8. 捨俱、智不相應、有行一心。

這八種是有因欲界善心。

Sahagata: (adj) accompanying or associated with, joined to; connected with, based upon, imbued with, characterized by 

Ñāa: (n) knowledge 

Sampayutta: (pp. sampayuñjati) connected with, dependent on, resulting from  相應

Asakhārika: (adj) not instigated or prompted by oneself or others; unaffected, but done spontaneously  無行,未受煽動或影響;自發的

Sasakhārika: (adj) instigated, induced or prompted by oneself or others; unspontaneous  有行,受到煽動或影響;非自發的

Vippayutta: (adj) disconnected with  不相應

Upekkhā, upekhā: (f) indifference to pain and pleasure, equanimity, resignation 

Imāni: (pron. n.) these

Aṭṭha: (num) eight

Sahetuka: (adj) having a cause  有因

Kāma: (m) desire, desired object; sensual pleasures, passion, lust 

Kāmāvacara: (adj) within the domain of sensual pleasure, belonging to the Kāmaloka  欲界

Kusala: (adj) skillful, expert, clever; lucky, happy, prosperous; good, right, virtuous, meritorious 

Nāma: (adv) by name; indeed

11. Somanassasahagataṃ ñāṇasvippayuttaṃ asaṅkhārikam ekaṃ.

12. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by pleasure, dissociated with knowledge,

13. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by indifference, associated with knowledge.

14. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by indifference, associated with knowledge,

15. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by indifference, dissociated with knowledge,

16. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by indifference, dissociated with knowledge.

 

These are the eight types of Resultant Consciousness, with Hetus, of the sensuous sphere.

 

 

 9. 悅俱、智相應、無行一心。

Icc' evaṃ sabbathā pi catuvīsati sahetuka-kāmāvacara-kusala- vipāka-kriyācittāni samattāni.

 

 

(Eight Types of Functional Consciousness)

 

17. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by pleasure, associated with knowledge,

18. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by pleasure, associated with knowledge,

19. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by pleasure, dissociated with knowledge,

20. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by pleasure, associated with knowledge,

21. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by indifference, dissociated with knowledge,

22. One consciousness, prompted accompanied by indifference, associated with knowledge,

23. One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by indifference, dissociated with knowledge,

24. One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by indifference, dissociated with knowledge.

 

These are the eight types of Functional Consciousness, with Roots, of the sensuous sphere.

 

Thus end, in all, the moral, resultant, functional types of consciousness, with Hetus, of the sensuous sphere.

 

 

17. 悅俱、智相應、無行一心。

18. 悅俱、智相應、有行一心。

19. 悅俱、智不相應、無行一心。

20. 悅俱、智不相應、有行一心。

21. 捨俱、智相應、無行一心。

22. 捨俱、智相應、有行一心。

23. 捨俱、智不相應、無行一心。

24. 捨俱、智不相應、有行一心。

這八種是有因欲界唯作心。

如是總結,一共有廿四欲界有因心:善、果報及唯作。

Sahetu-kāmāvacara-puññapākakriyā matā

 

 

(Summary)

 

The moral, resultant, and functional types of consciousness of the sensuous sphere, with Hetus, which differ according to feeling, knowledge, and inducement, should be understood as twenty-four.

 

 

欲界有因心,善果報唯作,

依受智及行,分為二十四。

      (n) wish, opinion, intention, doctrine

Maññati: to think, suppose, imagine, consider, esteem, know, believe, understand

 

 

 

 

1.6.5 欲界心之總結

 

Kāme tevīsapākāni

Puññāpuññāni vīsati

Ekādasa kriyā cā ti

Catupaññāsa sabbathā

 

 

In the sensuous sphere twenty-three are “Resultant”, twenty “Moral” and “Immoral”, and eleven are “Functional”; fifty-four in all.

 

 

欲界果報二十三,善與不善共二十,

唯作則有十一個,如是共有五十四。
