1.5 十八無因心(Ahetuka-Cittāni

 

1.5.1 七不善果報心(Akusala-vipāka-cittāni

 

(1) Upekkhāsahagataṃ cakkhu-viññāṇaṃ; tathā (2) sota-viññāṇaṃ, (3) ghāna-viññāṇaṃ, (4) jivhā-viññāṇaṃ; (5) dukkhasahagataṃ kāya-viññāṇaṃ; (6) upekkhāsahagataṃ sampaṭicchanacittaṃ, (7) upekkhāsahagataṃ santīraṇacittañ cā ti.

Imāni satta pi akusalavipākacittāni nāma.

 

 

(Immoral Resultant Consciousness without Roots)

 

(1) Eye-consciousness, accompanied by indifference. So are (2) Ear-consciousness, (3) Nose-consciousness, (4) Tongue-consciousness, (5) Body-consciousness, accompanied by pain, (6) Receiving consciousness, accompanied by indifference, (7) Investigating consciousness, accompanied by indifference.

 

These seven are the immoral resultant types of consciousness.

 

 

(一)眼識與捨俱行,(二)耳識、(三)鼻識、(四)舌識亦如是;(五)身識與苦俱行;(六)領受與捨俱行;(七)推度與捨俱行。這七種是不善果報心。

 

 

NOTES

 

Hetu: (m) cause, reason, motive; origin, root  因,根

(adv) on account of, by reason of, by means of, for the sake of

Hetuka: (adj) having a cause; causing, instrumental  有因的

Ahetuka: (adj) without a cause, rootless  無因的

Citta: (n) the mind, the heart; thought, idea; will, intention 

Akusala: (adj) bad, evil, sinful, unhealthful; unskilled, unable  不善

Vipāka: (m) result, product, consequence; good result, fruit, profit, reward; evil result, retribution  果報

Upekkhā, upekhā: (f) indifference to pain and pleasure, equanimity, resignation 

Sahagata: (adj) accompanying or associated with, joined to; connected with, based upon, imbued with, characterized by 

Cakkhu: (m/n) the eye; insight; supernatural insight or knowledge 

Sota: (n) the ear, organ of hearing 

Ghāna: (n) the nose, the organ of smell 

Jivhā: (f) the tongue 

Kāya: (m) the body; collection, multitude 

Viññāa: (n) consciousness; thought, mind; intelligence, knowledge 

Tathā: (adv) so, thus; also

Dukkha: (n) pain, suffering, trouble 

Sampaicchana: (n) assent, acceptance, agreement  領受

Sampaicchati: to receive, accept, agree

Santīraa: (n) investigation, decision; as technical term denoting a stage in the act of sense-cognition, judging an impression  推度

Imāni: (pron. n.) these

Satta: (num) seven

Nāma: (adv) by name; indeed

 

 

 

 

1.5.2 八善果報無因心(Kusala-vipākāhetuka-cittāni

 

(8) Upekkhāsahagataṃ kusalavipākaṃ cakkhu-viññāṇaṃ; tathā (9) sota-viññāṇaṃ, (10) ghāna-viññāṇaṃ, (11) jivhā-viññāṇaṃ; (12) sukhasahagataṃ kāya-viññāṇaṃ; (13) upekkhāsahagataṃ sampaṭicchanacittaṃ; (14) somanassasahagataṃ santīraṇacittaṃ (15) upekkhāsahagataṃ santīraṇacittañ cā ti.

Imāni aṭṭha pi kusalavipākāhetukacittāni nāma.

 

 

(Moral Resultant Consciousness without Roots)

 

(8) Moral resultant Eye-consciousness, accompanied by indifference. So are (9) Ear-consciousness, (10) Nose-consciousness, (11) Tongue-consciousness, (12) Body-consciousness, accompanied by happiness, (13) Receiving consciousness, accompanied by indifference, (14) Investigating consciousness, accompanied by pleasure, (15) Investigating consciousness, accompanied by indifference.

 

These eight are the moral resultant types of consciousness without Hetu.

 

 

(八)眼識與捨俱行,(九)耳識、(十)鼻識、(十一)舌識亦如是;(十二)身識與樂俱行;(十三)領受與捨俱行;(十四)推度與悅俱行;(十五)推度與捨俱行。這八種是善果報無因心。

 

 

NOTES

 

Kusala: (adj) skillful, expert, clever; lucky, happy, prosperous; good, right, virtuous, meritorious 

Sukha: (n) happiness; welfare; ease, comfort    (adj) blest; happy, delightful, pleasant; easy 

Somanassa: (n) satisfaction, enjoyment, joy  悅,喜

Aṭṭha: (num) eight

 

 

 

 

1.5.3 三無因唯作心(Ahetuka-kiriya-cittāni

 

(16) Upekkhāsahagataṃ pañcadvārāvajjanacittaṃ; tathā (17)

manodvārāvajjanacittaṃ; (18) somanassasahagataṃ hasituppādacittañ cā ti.

Imāni tīṇi pi ahetukakiriyacittāni nāma.

Icc' evaṃ sabbathā pi aṭṭhārasāhetukacittāni samattāni.

 

 

(Functional Consciousness without Roots)

 

(16) Five Sense-door adverting consciousness, accompanied by indifference. So is (17) Mind-door adverting consciousness. (18) Smile-producing consciousness, accompanied by pleasure.

  

These three are the functional types of consciousness without Hetu.

 

Thus end, in all, the eighteen types of consciousness without Hetu.

 

 

(十六)捨俱五門轉向心,(十七)意門轉向心亦如是(捨俱);(十八)悅俱(阿羅漢)生笑心。這三種是無因唯作心。如是總結,一共有十八無因心。

Kiriya; kiriyā, kriyā: (n; f) action, performance; work, deed; function  唯作

Pañca: (num) five

Dvāra: (n) a door, gate; an entrance, an aperture 

Āvajjana: (n) turning to, paying attention, apprehending, adverting the mind  轉向

Mana: (m/n) the mind, the intellect, the thoughts, the heart 

Hasita: (n) laughter, mirth 

Uppāda: (m) springing up, producing, appearance; birth; an omen  產生

i: (num. n. nom/acc) three

Iti, ti, icc (before a vowel): (adv) thus

Evaṃ: (adv) thus

Sabbathā: (adv) in every way, thoroughly

Aṭṭhārasa, aṭṭhādasa (num) eighteen

Samatta: (pp) concluded; complete, entire, all

 

 

 

 

1.5.4 無因心之總結

 

Sattākusalapākāni

Puññapākāni aṭṭhadhā

Kriyācittāni tīṇī ti

Aṭṭhārasa ahetukā.

 

 

(Summary)

 

Seven are immoral resultants.

Moral resultants are eightfold.

Three are functionals.

Ahetukas are eighteen.

 

 

七不善果報,善果報八種,

唯作心三種;無因共十八。

Pāka: (m/n) cooking; ripeness, maturity; result, fulfillment, accomplishment  果報

Puñña: (n) goodness, good work, merit   (adj) good, virtuous, meritorious  善,福

Aṭṭhadhā: (adv) eightfold, in eight ways
