There is a children-cloth-line called “Pumpkin Patch”.   It appeared and wore by a news personality recently.  The 世界日報 editor translate it to南瓜補丁.

What is a “Pumpkin Patch”?   It is a patch of field where pumpkins are grown.  So, the correct translation is南瓜圃.

This is a small world now.  Many editors in media are catching up with information flying faster than a jet plane.  In a hurry, mistake made.  However, some translations are purely ignorant of the original culture and language.

The Military Academy of US is also being known as the West Point, because it is locate at a point (角) on the Hudson.  But somehow we always say 西點, as an order of western desert, a piece of chees cake.

Now a day, there is a female tennis superstar from Belgium named Hennin-Hardenne.  The Chinese media called her海寧.  Her name is actually sounded like Ennin艾寧.  But most our media guys or girls who do not speak French, I guess.  By the way, in Belgium, one does not speak 比利時話.  One speaks either French or German.  In Frence or most Europe, one seldom pronounces the sound of “H”.  It is always an O tel is Paris, not a hotel.  It always a French Ospital, not a hospital.

Mainland Chinese call Mr. Castro 卡斯特羅.  I guess if you know how to pinyin, you will do so.  By the same token, Chinese also call Croatia, 克羅地亞.  Pretty bad ah, if you are a Croat. 

How do you translate 沙文主義?  If you have an ignorant沙文主義者 in the media, we are in trouble.
