In search of my Rock Time 26 –The Tide Is Turning
先前我提過了《The Dark Side of the Moon》以及《The Wall》兩張經典專輯中的單曲: http://blog.udn.com/le14nov/4706598 In search of my Rock Time 21 – The Great Gig In The Sky http://blog.udn.com/le14nov/4708624 In search of my Rock Time 22 – Comfortably Numb 而這一次則是想要介紹Pink Floyd 的靈魂人物Roger Waters 在 1987 年的個人專輯《Radio K.A.O.S》中的一首〈The Tide Is Turning〉。 不確定所有喜歡 Pink Floyd 的樂迷是否也一定會找到 Roger Waters 單飛後發表的個人作品,但我自己則是非常喜歡他在1984 年發表的第一張個人專輯《The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking》以及後續的作品《Radio K.A.O.S》(1987)、《Amused to Death》(1992)。
不過就算沒接觸過《Radio K.A.O.S》這張專輯,〈The Tide Is Turning〉這首單曲則是躬逢其盛地收錄在 1990 年的演唱會《The Wall Live in Berlin》,相信聽過的樂迷也應該不在少數吧!
整場演唱會以《The Wall》這張經典專輯的曲目為主,但也做了不少的改變: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wall_%E2%80%93_Live_in_Berlin This performance had several differences from Pink Floyd's original production of The Wall show. Both "Mother" and "Another Brick in the Wall, Part II" (like in the 1980/81 concerts) were extended with solos by various instruments and the latter had a cold ending. "In The Flesh" (also like the 1980/81 concerts) has an extended intro, and "Comfortably Numb" featured dueling solos by the two guitarists as well as an additional chorus at the end of the song. "The Show Must Go On" is omitted completely, while both "The Last Few Bricks" and "What Shall We Do Now?" are included ("The Last Few Bricks" was shortened). Also, the performance of the song "The Trial" had live actors playing the parts, with Thomas Dolby playing the part of the teacher hanging from the wall, Tim Curry as the prosecutor, and Albert Finney as the Judge. The show ended with "The Tide Is Turning", a song from Waters' solo album Radio K.A.O.S.
I used to think the world was flat Rarely threw my hat into the crowd I felt I had used up my quota of yearning Used to look in on the children at night In the glow of their Donald Duck light And frighten myself with the thought of my little ones burning But, oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning The tide is turning
Satellite buzzing through the endless night Exclusive to moonshots and world title fights Jesus Christ, imagine what it must be earning Who is the strongest Who is the best Who holds the aces The East Or the West This is the crap our children are learning But oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning The tide is turning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning ……
