| Selected poems：《紀伯倫的詩》 https://www.books.com.tw/products/0010715243 紀伯倫的詩 作者：卡里‧紀伯倫 譯者：徐翰林 出版社：海鴿 出版日期：2016/05/11 語言：繁體中文 作者簡介 卡里‧紀伯倫（1883年～1931年） 生於黎巴嫩北部臨海的貝什里村(Besharri)一個宗教氣息濃厚的家庭。 童年時期，母親教他阿拉伯文和法文，又專門請家庭教師教他英文。 1888年，隨母親和同母異父的哥哥及兩個妹妹離開家鄉，移居美國波士頓。全家在唐人街過著清貧的日子，紀伯倫則被送進美國公立學校學習英語，在那裡奠定了他扎實的英文基礎。 後去法國，在巴黎藝術學院學習繪畫和雕塑，曾得到藝術大師羅丹的獎掖。1911年重返波士頓，次年遷往紐約長住，從事文學藝術創作活動，直至逝世。 紀伯倫青年時代以創作小說為主，定居美國後逐漸轉為以寫散文詩為主。他的小說幾乎都用阿拉伯文寫成，有短篇小說集《草原新娘》、《叛逆的靈魂》和長篇小說《折斷的翅膀》等。散文有《音樂短章》，散文詩集有《淚與笑》、《暴風雨》，詩集有《行列聖歌》，以及《珍聞與趣談》、《與靈魂私語》等。他用英文寫的第一部作品是散文集《瘋人》。此後陸繼發表散文詩集《先驅者》、《先知》《沙與沫》、《人之子耶穌》、《先知園》、《流浪者》等，以及詩劇《大地諸神》、《拉撒路和他的情人》等。《先知》被認為是他的代表作，作者以智者臨別贈言的方式，論述愛與美、生與死、婚姻與家庭、勞作與安樂、法律與自由、理智與熱情、善惡與宗教等一系列人生和社會問題，充滿比喻和哲理，具有東方色彩。紀伯倫並自繪充滿浪漫情調和深刻寓意的插圖。 〈歡樂與憂傷〉 一位婦人說：請給我們談談歡樂和憂傷。 他回答： 你們的歡樂是無法掩飾的憂傷。你歡笑的泉眼常常也飽含著淚水。 除此之外，又當如何？ 鐫刻在你們身上的憂傷愈深，你們能盛裝的歡樂愈多。 斟滿了美酒的杯盞，難道不是曾在陶工爐火中鍛造的杯盞嗎？ 撫平了心弦的詩琴，難道不是曾在木匠利刃下雕琢的木材嗎？ 當你們快樂時，審視自己的內心，你們會發現曾經的憂傷如今卻讓你們快樂。 當你們憂傷時，再次審視自己的內心，你們會發現曾經的快樂如今卻讓你們流淚。 你們當中有些人說：“歡樂勝於憂傷。”另一些人則說：“不，憂傷更偉大。” 但我要說，它們是相輔相成的。 它們一同降臨，當其中一個單獨與你同坐時，記住另一個正在你的床上安歇。 的確，你們就像在憂傷與歡樂之間搖擺不定的天平。 只有當你們徹底空虛時，你們才能平衡穩定。 把你浮沉不定的快樂和悲傷都留給那用你來稱量金銀的守財奴吧！ On Joy and Sorrow Then a woman said, Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow. And he answered: Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears. And how else can it be? The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven? And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives? When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.” But I say unto you, they are inseparable. Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed. Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy. Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced. And he answered: You would measure time the measureless and the immeasurable. You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons. Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing. Yet the timeless in you is aware of life’s timelessness, And knows that yesterday is but today’s memory and tomorrow is today’s dream. And that that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwelling within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars into space. Who among you does not feel that his power to love is boundless? And yet who does not feel that very love, though boundless, encompassed within the centre of his being, and moving not from love thought to love thought, nor from love deeds to other love deeds? And is not time even as love is, undivided and spaceless? But if in your thought you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all the other seasons, And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing. 〈和平與戰爭〉 三隻狗一邊曬著太陽，一邊聊天。第一隻狗想入非非地說：“能一直生活在狗國裏該多棒啊。想想我們自由自在地在海底、地面，甚至天空中旅遊多悠哉遊哉啊，思量一下這些讓我們舒適安逸的發明，甚至還能撫慰我們的眼睛、耳朵和鼻子呢。” 第二隻狗說話了:“我們更加關注藝術了，對著月亮狂吠時就能比我們的祖先有節奏多了。凝望自己水中的倒影時就能看得比我們的祖先清楚多了。” 第三隻狗也開口了：“我最感興趣的，最迷惑的還是狗世界裏的和平安寧。” 正在那時，三隻狗睜眼瞧了瞧，瞧！捉狗人正圍攏過來。 三隻狗躥起來，沿著大街狂奔而下。第三隻狗邊跑邊說：“看在上帝的分上，快逃命吧！文明就在身後呢。” Peace and War Three dogs were basking in the sun and conversing. The first dog said dreamily, "It is indeed wondrous to be living in this day of dogdom. Consider the ease with which we travel under the sea, upon the earth and even in the sky. And meditate for a moment upon the inventions brought forth for the comfort of dogs, even for our eyes and ears and noses." And the second dog spoke and he said, "We are more heedful of the arts. We bark at the moon more rhythmically than did our forefathers. And when we gaze at ourselves in the water we see that our features are clearer than the features of yesterday." Then the third dog spoke and said, "But what interests me most and beguiles my mind is the tranquil understanding existing between dogdoms." At that very moment they looked, and lo, the dog-catcher was approaching. The three dogs sprang up and scampered down the street; and as they ran the third dog said, "For Gods sake, run for your lives. Civilization is after us." |
