Retiredbum notes: Someone emailed me an aritcle regarding the scenery of West Lake, and the subject famous poem by Su Shi is also mentioned thereof. I just try hard to give my rendering to the poem, but fail to rhyme it as an English one does.
Originated by Su Shi Translated by Retiredbum
水光瀲灩晴方好﹐ The rippling waters glistened when in sunshine, what a beauty! 山色空濛雨亦奇。 And misty mountains blurred when in the rain, also a wonder! 欲把西湖比西子﹐ If I liken the West Lake to Xishi, the ancient belle, 淡妝濃抹總相宜。 At ease in either light or heavy make-up, a sight of sore eyes to me! |
