八月秋高風怒號，卷我屋上三重茅。

In lunar August of mid Autumn, high winds were howling and blowing the thatches of three layers away from the rooftop. 

茅飛渡江灑江郊，高者掛罥長林梢，下者飄轉沉塘坳。

The winds carried the thatches across the river, hanging on the twigs of trees, or falling down the lowlands. 

南村群童欺我老無力，忍能對面為盜賊。

In front of me, hard-hearted kids from southern village  took advantage of my decrepitude and became juvenile offenders.

公然抱茅入竹去，唇焦口燥呼不得，歸來倚杖自歎息。

They seized the thatches blatantly and run to a bamboo grove.  I yelled at them to stop but of no avail.  Gotten back, I leaned on my walking stick and sigh alone.

俄頃風定雲墨色，秋天漠漠向昏黑。

Ere long, the winds ceased blowing but dark clouds started gethering, and   Autumn skies became blurry and murky. 

布衾多年冷似鐵，嬌兒惡臥踏裡裂。

Quilts made of cloth had been as cold as a sheet of iron, and had suffered excessive wear and tear by my spoilt childs improper usuage.

床頭屋漏無乾處，雨腳如麻未斷絕。

Not a sign could the rain ever stop dripping, nor a dry place could I find in front of my bedside. 

自經喪亂少睡眠，長夜沾濕何由徹！

Seldom could I sleep tight since the revolt, not an end could I see towards these long, wet nights!

安得廣廈千萬間，大庇天下寒士俱歡顏。

Howd I wish that I could get thousands of spacious houses as shelters for humble people around the world, so they would have contented smiles on their faces.   

風雨不動安如山！

But the the winds and the rain were yet to stop, being like mountains still standing there!

嗚呼！何時眼前突兀見此屋，吾廬獨破受凍死亦足！

Alas!  when would I see those lofty houses loom up of me, and then I would  not be regreted even my thatched cottage was blown and tore down, and thus made me freeze to death!
