(Fire Dreams)。 This Cup of Coffee If a poem were to slip into this cup of coffee Morning would write the lyrics on my tongue I might lift my eyes above the burning horizon To catch a hawk or dove in the planning stage A phrase might announce itself to be of proper length Or claim on the contrary to not be fitting at all Each line might refuse to obey and slip back to sleep Without guilt or fear beneath the poets approaching pen Alas, coffee goes stale, but words do not Believe thoughts can sour or just go away Leaving stray, strange oldies to ponder the dust Of words gone ancient and brittle to modern tongues All this is too much to ask, too much to say Of a Saturday morning cup of coffee and a poem No better off in the soggy grounds in the sink Nor left unsipped in the autumn cup But unadvertised, unverbalized, unbreakable In the concert halls of the imagination Where at least there is peace of the sort That never gets spoken nor written But wantonly bounces around In the free space of a poetic morning by Tom Radzienda ISBN9749244788 (ISBN13: 9789749244784)
