《南傳法句經》第108偈
故事為鄙人摘譯自 K. Sri Dhammananda 長老主編的英文版 The Dhammapada,添枝減葉若干。
《法句經》第108偈延續前兩偈的要旨,這回輪到舍利弗的婆羅門朋友上場。某次,舍利弗問朋友:「你近來是否做了任何功德?」友人答說:「我辦了許多盛大的祭祀,貢獻大量的牲禮,期望下輩子能投生梵天界。」於是,舍利弗苦口婆心勸道:「令師教你的,無非是虛幻的期待,他們根本不曉得往生梵天界的法門。」 之後,舍利弗引領朋友去拜見佛陀。佛陀向他開示,教導他往生梵天界的佛法,並告訴他:「禮敬真正的聖者,儘管只有須臾片刻,遠勝於祭獻供品一整年,無論牲禮是大或小。」

108 Better than Sacrificial Slaughter of Animals Is Honour to the Pure Ones
Yaṃ kiñci iṭṭhaṃ va hutaṃ va loke Saṃvaccharaṃ yajetha puññapekho Sabbam pi taṃ na catubhāgameti Abhivādanā ujjugatesu seyyo
In this world whatever gift or alms a person seeking merit should offer for a year, all that is not worth a single quarter of the reverence towards the Upright which is excellent.

若人於世間,供犧牲祭祀, 求福滿一年,彼如是功德, 未若四分一,禮敬正直者(初果或其他聖者)。
