6. 守則不足，攻則有餘。

採取守勢是因為兵力不夠，進攻則是因為兵力比敵人強大。

Taking the defensive position implies lack of strength, attacking indicates superior strength.

7. 善守者，藏于九地之下；善攻者，動于九天之上；故能自保而全勝也。

善於防守的軍隊，把自己隱藏在地下的深處讓敵人無法察覺；善於攻擊的軍隊，如迅雷從天而降讓敵人無法抵擋；所以他們能自保並取得全勝。

The army that is good at defense hides in a place deep inside earth not possibly discovered, the army that is skilled in attack strikes down from the very top of heaven not resistible by the enemy, thus they can preserve themselves and win in all battles.

8. 見勝不過眾人之所知，非善之善者也。

取得了勝利，但其知識水平卻不過跟眾人一般，不能算是最卓越的表現。

Gaining victories with the quality of knowledge no difference from that of the common herd cannot be regarded as excellence.

9. 戰勝而天下曰善，非善之善者也。

戰勝了敵人即使受天下人追捧，也非最卓越的表現。

Even being praised by the whole nation for victories still cannot be regarded as excellence.

10. 故舉秋毫不為多力，見日月不為明目，聞雷霆不為聰耳。

就好像能舉起秋天的毫毛不算是力量大，能看見日月之光不算是視力良好，能聽見雷電之聲不算是聽覺敏銳。

Just like being able to lift an autumn hair cannot be regarded as great power, able to see the light of sun and moon cannot be regarded as good vision, able to hear the sound of thunder cannot be regarded as sharp hearing.
