重幃深下莫愁堂，

Layers of drapes in my Mochou Bower had rolled down,

臥後清宵細細長。

but sleep did not come throughout the whole night long

神女生涯原是夢，

Once an illusive tryst with King of Chu was nothing but a dream,

小姑居處本無郎。

I am a maid without any one accompanying me the years on and on.

風波不信菱枝弱，

As a feeble twig of water chestnut amid the strong wind blowing,

月露誰教桂葉香。

and as a fragrant bay tree leaf but without any scent emitting.

直道相思了無益，

Although I know it is no use yearning love forever,

未妨惆悵是清狂。

on my mind I would rather let the malancholy continue abiding.
