    「研究方法」的英文應寫為research method 或是 research methodology呢？許多同學把method和methodology當作同義詞而隨意使用，或覺得methodology比較有學術感就用上了，連期刊和學位論文中也常見兩者涇渭不分或混用（using the two interchangeably）。但本質上這兩個字的意義是不一樣的，在比較嚴謹的學術寫作裡，method是指蒐集和分析資料的技術和程序 （techniques and procedures for gathering and analyzing data） ，在論文中是陳述使用某種研究方法的過程，如實驗操作和統計分析的程序。而methodology則是有系統研究某事物的方法（a system of ways of studying something），較精確的譯法應為「方法論」或「方法學」（the study of methods），撰寫論文時是論述採取某種理論或研究方法的理由、預設、邏輯和依據原則等，例如說明為何採用現象學（phenomenology）來探討某種社會現象。因此使用method或methodology都可行，但要視你的論文內容和研究主題來決定，而不是憑感覺或印象。例句如下： 

The purpose of this chapter is to explain in detail the research methods and the methodology implemented for this study.

本章旨在闡述此研究所採用之研究方法及其方法論。
