“quid pro quo"這個拉丁詞在英文中代表的意思就是" something for something."如果你願意付出, 那是因為你也可以得到相當的回餽, 我們的人生也常以此為軸線不斷地旋轉。儘管我們常冠冕其詞, 骨子裡卻包藏它心。 在“Merriam-Webster's Advanced Learner's English Dictionary" 中, 把" quid pro quo" 解釋成" something that is given to you or done for you in return for something you have given to or done for someone else." 我們來看它提供的例句 “ If he helps us. He'll expect a quid pro quo.(= He'll expect us to do something for him.) 這顯然有 "對價關係" 存在。"Longman Dictionary of Contemporary Dictionary" 的例句則為“ We let them have a discount of purchases as a quid pro quo for the use of our computer." 記得影集"Brothers and Sisters" 中當該家庭的大家長猝逝，一段婚外情被挖出，就出現下面的對白： Of course, he had an affair. His whole generation saw that as quid pro quo.（當然，他有外遇。他那一代就把那種事視為互惠式的各取所需。）I pay the bills, I get something on the side, everyone’s happy.（我付錢，我也得到我要的，每個人都高興。） 記得在人力資源管理(Human Resource Management)課程的內容中, 總會討論到“性騷擾“(Sexual Harassment), 因為性騷擾常為權力濫用(Abuse of power)的結果, 在分析其本質時便有一項牽扯到是否為"quid pro quo", 比如老闆(男或女)對員工說請她(他) 參加酒宴, 答應就有好處(如升遷) , 當然不答應就有可能遭殃, 這種"quid pro quo" 就是權力濫用的例子, 但也未必定是權力的濫用, 像電影"Indecent Proposal中譯"桃色交易“), 男主角(Robert Redford), 便對女主角(Demmy More)夫婦提出" Soppose I offer you one million dollars for sharing only single night with your wife." 的“quid pro quo"的誘人桃色交易; 而在另一部片中(Disclosure, 中譯"桃色危機“）, Demmy More則飾一位強勢女上司, 對下屬(Kirk Douglas)進行誘惑式性騷擾, 劇情亦劇力萬鈞。兩部均頗值得觀賞。
