This Saturday morning my wife and I went to an elementary school of the town where my daughter and her families live at to watch my elder granddaughter play softball.  

There were three girl matchups on the rather large, grassed playground.  The game my granddaughter played in was the most junior one: all girls were first graders around seven years old.  The players of either team were all fielders, no pitchers, no catchers.  The offence team hit the ball placed on top of a post, and the fielders of defense team fumbled with the ball in front of them so clumsily that almost every ball hit onto the ground could be an in-side-the-park homer.  Cheers and laughter filled the air throughout the game.  What an amusing game it was.

Though it was just a kid play, all "players" of either team were fully equipped and dressed in uniform, helmet, knee pad, spikes, and so on.  The expense of the ensemble must be dearly to an ordinary family, let alone the fee paid to the organizers of the activity. 

I wish my granddaughters have a happy childhood; meanwhile, I also hope they could understand nothing they have had is taken for granted.
