Yesterday I talked about John King Fairbank, an outstanding historian who was not so welcomed by the academic circle in Taiwan because he had been "unfriendly" to China under KMT. Today I would like to introduce to you an article from another great historian: Professor He Bingdi, who was also unwelcome to his fellow comtemporaries in Taiwan partly because of his reputedly arrogant character. Attached below is one of his popular thesis for ordinary readers. His point of view may have been widely recognized, so please read it if you are interested in. https://www.guancha.cn/HeBingDi/2019_01_24_488009_1.shtml FYI, however, Mr Li Ao once praised Prof. He to the skies for one of his thesis concerning tax system on salt of Ming or Qing Dynasty. (But I cannot recall the detail.) |
