On 2nd day of June, my wife and I, as members of a tour group, arrived at Changsha Airport after two hours flight. Changsha(長沙), as in the lower position of second-tier cities in China, is the provincial capital of Hunan. The airport gave us an impression of its vastness but yet to be pending further elegant interior decor. However, it was the immigration impressed me with great surprise and pleasure. You know, I have visited Mainland many a time before. The visitors from Taiwan used to pass the immigration through a special area: "Chinese Inhibitants of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan". Not this time, maybe not any more. When our tour guide announced that all of us must pass the immigration through the lanes of "China Nationals" same as those returned Mainlanders, with some reluctance he said that we "could not help it" but to accept this "new" arrangement. Well, he did not have to feel that way. Arent we from Republic of "China"? If we are not China nationals, then who else we are? That is a significant change! Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan are all territories of China, so their inhibitants must be treated as China nationals. The only differerence is the travelling documents they are holding. For Mainlanders, they are holding PRC passports, while for the inhibitants from Taiwan, the so-called "ID for Taiwan Compatroit". It is absolutely no need of specializing a designated area in the immigration for China nationals other than Mainlanders. P.S Most of the tour members are my wifes erstwhile colloagues, and they are all with higher quality. So they did not react to what the tour guide said at all. |
