There have been several places deemed as Shangri-la, an utopia in Tibetian area, since the British writer Hilton publish his famous novel, Lost Horizon. The novel reflected the mindset of British and other imperialists that had long been covetous of Tibet. Not any more. In 2001, China government pronounced Zhongdian(中甸縣) in Yunnan Tibetian Autonomous County as the sole Shangri-la. We flew to Kunming from Taipei late in the evening that night, and when we finally settled down in the hotel it was over midnight. In the very morning we had to get up early to continue our trip to Zhongdian by plane. Therefore, as weary travellers and newcomers in the area of high altitude, most of the teammates were too feeble to take a good look at the beautiful scenery in Potatso National Park(普達措國家公園): the dreamland-like lakes surrounded by forest, snow-shrouded mountains, and vast pastures where yaks, horses, and pigs were leisurely feeding themselves. Besides, it was chilly and misty moment when we got there, so fatigue plus bad weather was really a disappointing visit on such a mecca. You know, changing climate within a day in a plateau like Yunnan makes satisfactory sightseeings a serenpidity to tourists.
