遺忘語言的鳥呀 Alas! the bird who is oblivious to its language,
也遺忘了啼鳴 and even has forgotten how to chirp and crow.
趾高氣揚孤單地 Haughtily,
飛啊 不停飛啊 It flies and keeps flying,
飛到太陽那樣高高在上 up as far as where the Sun is.
離開巢穴遠遠飛去 Far, far away from its nest,
離開了父母兄弟姐妹 parents, and siblings,
也遙遠地拋棄了祖宗 also its ancestors in distance.
能遠飛才心滿意足似的 Seemingly, it contends in flying
像不知回歸迷路的孩子 ,like a kid who has gone astray.
固陋的，遺忘了一切 Perversely and intentionally, it forgets the past,
遺忘了自己的精神習俗和倫理 its spiritual lore and ethics,
遺忘了傳統表達的語言, including its tongue to express itself.
鳥已不能歌唱了 The bird cannot sing anymore
什麼也不能歌唱了 nothing it can sing
被太陽燒焦了舌尖 with its tongue tip scorched by sunburn
傲慢的鳥 O, the arrogant bird.
遺忘了語言的悲哀的鳥呀 O, the pathetic bird without its language.
