| The market’s rally is in trouble as negatives weigh in. 市場的漲勢陷入麻煩, 因為不利的事情加入(影響).
最近整理資料時, 看到2012年這一句標題, 寫得很好. 但又看到weigh這個字. 坦白說, 這個字的變化, 以前困擾我很久, 所以這一次決定把它再整理好. 平常我們在商業新聞上看到的時候. 我大致上分類是有三種定義, 記住這三個就好了. 至於說稱重的例句和其他的定義, 各位可以在字典上找到. (上面的negatives 是形容詞加上s, 就可以當成名詞, 是指負面不利的事情.) 第一個A的定義是比較簡單. 既然這個單字原始的定義是說稱重, 衍生出來的就有 "考慮, 權衡, 評估"的意思. * They weighed the advantages and disadvantages before making the decision. 他們權衡利弊之後才作出決定. * Investors weigh mixed-bag economic data. 投資人評估/消化多空雜陳的經濟資料. B的定義分類裡是指不好的影響. B-1.重壓, 把……壓彎, 加過重負擔於. * The branches of the pear tree were weighed heavily with fruit. 梨樹的樹枝給沉甸甸的果實壓彎了. * U.S.stocks post mild losses, weighed by falling home sales. 美國股市小跌, 被下跌的房屋銷售所影響. B-2. weigh down. 強調會影響到某事情的"下跌, 使頹喪時, 直接加down. * The ripe fruit weighed down the branches of the tree. 成熟的果實把樹枝都壓彎了. * The responsibilities of both the business and the home weighed her down. 事業和家庭雙重重擔, 壓得她喘不過氣來. * The macro concerns weighed down the markets. 總體方面的憂慮壓垮了市場. * Gold has been weighed down by a world in need of US dollars. 由於全球對美金的需求, 黃金(價格)被拖累下來了. * He was weighed down with grief. 他因憂愁而頹喪. B-3.. weigh on. 特別對某人, 某件事情造成影響/重壓, 後面加on. * The problem weighed on his mind. 那個問題沉重地壓在他心頭. * The U.S.-China trade war weighed on consumer spending. 美中的貿易戰影響到了消費者支出. 在C的定義分類中, 是指加入, 摻一腳. 特別是在討論, 辯論等時, "也"提出重要的或令人信服的意見. C-1. weigh in. 後面不加其他介系詞時也可以. * My grandmother weighed in when we were discussing climate change. 當我們在討論氣候變化時, 我的祖母也加進來了. * Will stock market rally continue? Morgan Stanley weighs in. 股市會不會繼續漲? 大摩加入(提供)看法. C-2. weigh in to. 後面加個to可接動詞. He weighed in to prove the point. 他插手來證實那個論點. C-3. weigh in on. 如果後面加這個on, 是指加入評估討論, 針對某件(特別的)事情. * Critics weighed in on President Tsai Ing-wens first 200-days in office. 評論家針對蔡英文總統的前200天的就職(也)提供了看法. * Wall Street weighed in on Intel’s commentary from its analyst day. 華爾街針對Intel的法說會評論, (也)提供了看法. C-4. weigh in with. 加入討論時, 特別提出什麼樣的言論, 評論, 看法. 後面加with. * At that point, the chairman weighed in with a strong defence of company policy. 這時, 主席發言有理有據地維護了公司的政策. * Several leading architects weighed in with criticisms regarding the design of the new museum. 幾位著名的建築師加入討論, 對新博物館的設計方案提出了批評意見. * The chairman weighed in with his views on the issue. 董事長加入討論, (也)提供了他對這件事情的看法. * President Trump weighed in with a tweet: "Pennsylvania prevented us from watching much of the Ballot count.
