After drinking the water of Changsha, and later eating fish in Wuchang,
now I am swimming to traverse Long River which flows thousands of miles, while scanning widely the immense skies over the ancient land of Chu.
Regardless of blowing wind and patting waves, I swim leisurely like stolling in court, with my pleasant mood of today.
Confucsius once said on a river, "Time is drawing on like this!"
Junks are in motion while Mt Gui and Mt She lay still amid a grand project being under way.
The bridge connecting the North and the South turns the natural barrier into a thoroughfare.
Furthermore, I want to build a gigantic stone wall to cut off the water from Wu Gorge, and let the gorge become a high lake.
If the fairy lady of folklore do exist, she will be surely surprised at her world has changed.
PS The time Chairman Mao wrote this verse was around mid 50s when there were only two bridges over Long River: one in Nanjing and this new one in Wuhan. Now there have had over a hundred bridges over the river, and among them there were five alone in Nanjing, not to mention that magnificient Three Gorges Dam as Mao described in the verse. (Mao, as well as CCP, is the genuine follower to Dr Sun Yat-shen.)
