大自然常見的風災有typhoon颱風、storm暴風、hurricane颶風、tornado龍捲風等，因形成風災的地理位置和氣候條件不同而有各種名稱，但其實詞彙搭配的用法差不多。以下就僅以台灣夏秋兩季常見的typhoon為例。

We were supposedly in the middle of a great typhoon, and yet the waves were strangely hushed.
