Summary The FLRP provides an exciting environment where you will apply learned concepts to real work life experiences. You will share your program expectations and consider solutions that will enable you to achieve those expectations. You will understand your personal behavioral style through the DISC Personal Profile System. Lesson 1 My expectations from FLRP: Assist to recognize and acknowledge people with different behavioral style Develop communication skills with troublesome employees Familiarize with most common issues between employees and manager Learn how to avoid EEO and Union issues Support from mentor/coach during and after FLRP training Goals: Be ready and confident for a manager's position Reflections: What skills and talents do I bring to a leadership position? What do I need from others to help me become an effective leader? What can I do to balance my work/life demands and reduce stress from my new manager duties? What questions do I have for my Coach? How can my Coach assist me in becoming an effective leader? My DISC profile: Natural Style: C Adapted Style: C Dominance (D): Conservative Influencing (I): Factual, Calculating, Skeptical, Logical Steadiness (S): Mobile, Active, Restless, Alert, Variety Oriented Compliance (C): Cautious, Conventional, Exacting, Neat, Systematic, Diplomatic, Accurate, Tactful, Open-Minded, Balanced Judgment Based on my DISC profile, I will be a better analyst than a manager. However, the coach will help each individual in the class to know how to be a manager based on one's behavior style. My conclusion: Being a manager in a government agency is very different from a private company. You have to bear in mind that the Union is a strong organization, never have any conflict interest with the Union. Home work: Prepare a creative and innovative presentation relating to one chapter in The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People. Being an extremely introvert person, this training is going to be a big challenge to me. The entire class requires us to demonstrate or express our own thoughts to the questions asked in the class all the time, then everyone in the class including instructors will raise questions or giving different opinions for you to answer. Almost 80% of the time allocated is for student's presentation, instructors use only 20% of the time in class. There's no right or wrong answer, it all depends on your behavior style. One will learn how to deal with employees of different personalities. Received 3 additional books as gifts, each has 200 and more pages. Don't know when I will have time to read them, hopefully it is not required within this week. |
