Yesterday I learned a piece of sporting news that Mr. Xu Jinzhe, the coach who'd led his team to win four consecutive titles in Taiwan's SBL(Super Basketball League), announced that he will be hired as the general coach of Shanxi Fens, a team of CBA(China Basketball Association) next season. Mr. Xu used to be a high school basketball coach in Taiwan, and then was sought after as one of pro-basketball's, and now he climbed the ladder even higher to a much more competitive arena, that signifies he has been widely recognised as a capable coach with talented flair. We should be happy for him. Mr. Xu's case just reflects a phonomenon in miniature that as long as one possess oneself some kinds of remarkable performance with one's talents, he or she will be approached by the "proachers" from Mainland, no matter he or she is outstanding in academic institutions, technology, show biz, sports, and so on. But how can we retain those talented in Taiwan? No way, because the economical pie of Taiwan is rapidly shrinking, and the pie can not be enlarged mainly because Taiwan keeps on demanding more benefits from China's Mainland only but refused to grant any political concessions in return. Just like I suggested earlier that let SBL with CBA, and let those high-levelled clubs of Mainland have opportunities to play in Taiwan so as to allure more fans back to games. Don't worry, I guess CBA will be generous to allow at least two clubs playing for Taiwan, and gurantees one of them will enter into playoff automatically. You may say in so doing the young basketball players will have lesser and lesser rooms for their career. On the contrary, if they are really good enough they will have better chances to hone their skills in more intensive games and earn them more money, for by the time the pie will much larger than what it is now. But that is another form of "unification"; will our government and basketball fans allow SBL to do so? That's the question, so is the question for whole Taiwan. |
