Yesterday my wife and I went to Eslite Bookstore(誠品) to buy some children books for a tiny kid like my granddaughter.  (My wife wants my daughter read stories to our granddaughter both in Chinese and English.  Shall it work?  I don't konw.)

This is the very first time that I've ever visited the bookstore, which, reputedly, is one of "prides of Taiwan".  The bookstore is actually a part of the Japanese-styled small shopping mall that comprises boutigues, coffee shop, and bistros.  I may be a little dogmatic, but I dare say the reasons that the mall has become a stamping ground for customers, especially those of younger generations, has been the sense of "petty bourgeois" and the Japanese ambience that haunt on their minds.

But I did buy a book there.  It's the translated novel of "Under the Hawthorn Tree" to which I'd written some comments "Love Beneath The Hawthorn Tree 山楂樹之戀" and posted it at http://blog.udn.com/kkuo0810/7113923 after I'd watched the movies that was adapted from the original of the book.  I guess I have to spare my limited time to read it.

山楂 - Hawthorn

墨爾本有一個區叫做 Hawthorn ,現在才知道這個字是山楂。

Yeah. I learned this word at LA; when I worked there in '80s, I lived in an apartment located on Hawthorn Street.
