春蠶食葉響迴廊, taking part in the competitive provincial test,
Not only will you survive this time,
also will sail through the imperial exam.
Like a gigantic bird roaring up the North Sea, a phoenix heading the Sun.
you are to brave the ordeal ahead.
By the same day of next year,
at ease you see the busy newcomers.
PS: These hot days are the period for one of the most important events taking place every year: Gao Kao (高考), or the college-entrance entrance examination. Hundreds of thousands of testees are vying to enter the relatively limited gates of the colleges. Good luck, young fellows, whether you acquire the opportunity to enter your dream school or not, I hope all of you will be the pillar of our country, someday, somehow!
FYI, a college classmate of mine sent me the poem via LINE. (Thank you, Mr. 謝) The poem, related to the ancient official exam, contains too many literary quotations to be translated word by word, so I only paraphrase it with my understanding.
