洛陽城東桃李花 ，The flowers of peach and plum in east Luoyang
飛來飛去落誰家？ Wafting in the air, where have they gone?
洛陽女兒惜顏色， Asked by a Luoyang belle
坐見落花長嘆息。 who sat in the yard, lamenting.
今年花落顏色改， This year, all of their colors faded.
明年花開復誰在？ But who will see the efflorescence next year?
已見松柏摧為薪， The pine and the cypress have become woods.
更聞桑田變成海。 and the fields have yielded to the sea.
古人無復洛城東， The dead have not cared about the flowers any more.
今人還對落花風。 Our hearts still linger on those blowing in the wind.
年年歲歲花相似， The flowers are all the same every year,
歲歲年年人不同。 but the viewers are different every year.
寄言全盛紅顏子， Please tell the young man who is in his hayday
應憐半死白頭翁。 that he should have pity for this guy being over the hill.
此翁白頭真可憐， The gray-headed old guy is pathetic now,
伊昔紅顏美少年。 but he used to be a handsome young man, too.
公子王孫芳樹下， He had rackets with nobles and princes,
清歌妙舞落花前。 indulging themselves in the days of falling flowers,
光祿池臺文錦繡， on the stages embroidered with silk,
將軍樓閣畫神仙。 in the attics decorated with paintings.
一朝臥病無相識， Once he was sick, there would be no acquintances.
三春行樂在誰邊？ Where have all the pleasures and vanities gone?
宛轉蛾眉能幾時？ How long can a beauty preserve her visage?
須臾鶴發亂如絲。 Ere long, the unkempt gray hair crept.
但看古來歌舞地， The only thing left in the places of singing and dancing
唯有黃昏鳥雀悲。 had been the sad sound of the birds at dusk.
PS: It is said the author brought the poem to see his uncle, who was also a poet. The uncle admired the poem very much, particularly the verses of "年年歲歲花相似，歲歲年年人不同。" and then asked his nephew to give away the poem to him as his own work. Certainly, the nephew rejected the unreasonable request. After a vehement argument, the quarrel finally became a fight. The uncle, out of anger and jealousy, killed his nephew, the author of the poem.
