吳王浮於江，登乎狙之山。眾狙見之，恂然棄而走，逃於深蓁。有一狙焉，委蛇攫抓搔，見巧乎王。王射之，敏給搏捷矢。王命相者趨射之，狙執死。

King of Wu ferried across Long River and stepped onto Mount Monkey.  Upon being aware of human intruders, the monkeys there were all running scared into thick bushes except only one.  The lone monkey leaped and cavorted, showing the king of its stunt and nimbleness.  The king shot it with arrows, but the monkey was quick enough to ward off, even to grasp, the arrows with derisive look on its face.  The king then ordered the guards to shoot the monkey, finally it was killed by arrows.        

王顧謂其友顏不疑曰：「之狙也，伐其巧恃其便以敖予，以至此殛也！戒之哉！嗟乎，無以汝色驕人哉！」

The king turned his head back and said to his friend Yan, "This monkey boasted of its stunt and dexterity, and it also gave me a contemptuous look. Now it has paid for what it did!  Alas, take the lesson!  Never despise others because of your talent.
