Seventy years ago of today, November 22, KMT orchestrated the election of representatives to 1st National Assembly. Actually, at that time some areas had been "liberated", so many a representative was appointed to the people who stayed at Nanjing. Worse enough, at least over 80% of Chineses then were illiterate, so you can imagine how had those representives been elected. On March 29th next year, the electoral college voted for the very 1st president and veep of Nationalist China. Nothing to be concerned about, Chiang Kai-shek was elected as president. However, it was a sinuous but dirty process for the veep election. Whatever dirty means of election you can see in today's Taiwan: mud-slinging, vote-buying, whispering campaign, and so on, could be seen in the veep election. Please see following report at: https://www.toutiao.com/a6491039066237174286/. After four rounds of voting, Gen. Li Zhongzen was elected. Why taking so many rounds? Because the election adopted the system of absolute majority to win, not the one of relative majority which has been introduced in Taiwan that; obviously, a regression to the so-call "democracy". Dear islanders, do continue enjoying your "sacrosanct right" to vote in the election of Taiwanese style. |
