Chinese plays are arts of wonder

臉上扮做五彩畫    身上穿著七色衣 

Five paints stain the face, their bodies adorned with rainbow clothes

腳下鞋底厚三寸    手中水袖一丈七 

With soles three inch thick, fluid sleeves seven yards wide

頭上雉尾飄飄轉    背後扎靠四杆旗 

Headed crane tails drifting round, back bearing four tall flags

珠環翠繞金絲繡    絢麗斑爛萬人迷

Jaded rings gilded in golden laces, brilliant spots enchant the audience

寶劍出鞘龍入海    槍花翻滾水底魚 

Draw the sword and the dragon dives to sea,

spears stir the fishes in the depth

靠旗出手風展翼    萬卉千姿比高低 

 Unleash the banner and give wings to the wind,

 numerous poses, high and low
