《Coffee.Sink》Daidi Hu’s Solo Exhibition (2015) Wheel of life, may it rise or fall, it all originates from this Oneness. In this era of chaos and disturbances, he who pacifies his body, soul and mind in One, is unbounded by destiny and thus free.
Daidi Hu, an artist who had lived in Germany for decades, returned to Taiwan in Autumn 2011. She moved to Hualien in summer 2012, and has been active in art and writing.
In the recent years, Taiwan has seen a rise in the coffee culture, and coffee residues became a commonly reused material due to rapid growth of coffee merchandises. Having experimented this for her art in many different ways, Daidi Hu has currently elaborated coffee paintings as her main artistic expression.
The "Coffee.Sink" Solo Exhibition is shown as the second of series for five weeks during the Chinese new year holidays in the charming Pine Garden. Since her previous exhibition "Coffee Talk. The Oracles" in the year 2013, the artist has continued with her casual style of creation, in which she attempts to present and explore the images and essence of “Sinking”(degeneration) in her creative process.
Enter the world of "Sinking" by hearing and by iconography, and break away from all existing understandings and convictions, whereby thoughts become abstract and potentiated: one can see the power of nature before a fierce storm. A lonely ship battles against the boiling dark sea. Or one can see an invisible sunset, illuminating the hope and longing of new immigrants in eastern Taiwan. In the land of "Sink", there must also be water, sounds, rhythms, floating and sinking, turning wheels, ascension, dance.... and endless expanding imagination, as the bitter fragrance of coffee that rises from the bottom of a cup and blossoms on the tastebud.
“Sink” is commonly a negation, but each “sinking” potentiates a “Non-sinking”. All that is negative, passive is transformed instantaneously into something positive and empowering.
The exhibition is broadly divided into 3 parts consisting of paintings, poetry and audio installation /interaction. While enjoying the view of blue sky, turquoise sea and red tower, the viewers will be able to wander through in the spacious exhibition area surrounded by old pine trees. They may also discover an interwoven ambience of five choral pieces: "drifting on the sea ", "wheel of life", "longing for the sunset", "the odor of dissociation", "dance, illusion, sublime" - sometimes loud and energetic, sometimes a mere murmuring.
Art lovers interested in experiencing coffee art are most welcome to visit us during CNY holidays and show time. You will perhaps re-experience, using other sensations than taste those fresh, enticing red coffee berries and coffee trees behind the creation. Or perhaps they will simply emerge in various other forms in your mind?
