《南傳法句經》第 26-27 偈
故事為鄙人摘譯自 K. Sri Dhammananda 長老主編的英文版 The Dhammapada,添枝減葉若干。
《法句經》第 26-27 偈,佛陀告誡眾人即使逢年過節也不可放逸。話說有一年,舍衛城正舉行一個盛大的慶典。慶典期間,許多年輕人用泥灰和牛糞塗抹身體,在城內四處遊蕩,大聲喧嘩,實在惹人厭煩。他們也停留在人家的門口,討到錢才肯離開。 當時舍衛城裡住著很多佛陀的在家信眾,他們曉得那群年輕人會胡搞瞎鬧,忙派人送口信給佛陀,請他待在精舍七天,別進城。信徒把供養食物直接送到精舍,他們自己則窩在家中不出門。第八天,慶典結束後,佛陀和弟子受邀進城說法。信徒們告訴佛陀那些年輕人在慶典期間的幼稚舉止,佛陀評論說,無明之輩的行為舉止自然缺乏尊嚴與高尚。 佛陀接著勸誡信徒們切不可渾噩混日,也不可沉溺於感官欲樂,而應時時保持正念現前,如此才能夠獲得幸福,證得無上喜樂的涅槃。 在家信眾全神貫注聆聽佛陀的開示,法喜充滿,對究竟法的信心更加堅定。

026 Be Heedful Not Heedless
Pamādamanuyuñjanti Bālā dummedhino janā Appamādañ ca medhāvī Dhanaṃ seṭṭhaṃ’ va rakkhati
The ignorant, foolish folk indulge in heedlessness; the wise man guards earnestness as the greatest treasure.
愚者陷放逸,智者善護持, 精進不放逸,如護無上寶。
027 Be Heedful Not Heedless
Mā pamādamanuyuñjetha Mā kāmaratisanthavaṃ Appamatto hi jhāyanto Pappoti vipulaṃ sukhaṃ
Indulge not in heedlessness; have no intimacy with sensuous delights. Verily, the earnest, meditative person obtains abundant bliss.
不行於放逸,不浸溺欲樂, 精勤禪修者,獲得大安樂。
