The Characteristic of Romanticism

1.Heterogeneity

Romanticism emphasized the 『heterogeneity』. In the age of enlightenment people all place importance on regularity, and it will make people all consistency that everybody's extraordinary talent could not be spread out.

2.Worship of Nature

Nature make people 's esthetic sensibilities and proceed to the next step become some work of art. Nature become a standard about beauty, like page362 says:

『all forms of nature became a symbol of the beautiful and the good,』

3.Exoticism

Another important aspect of Romanticism is the exotic. People desired foreign country bacause it provided them a kind of image as distant places. People want to glorify these strange lands and colorful peoples. 

Sometiome it was began from the enthusiasm of beauty, so Romanticism also regarded the exotic customs 、arts、habit and so forth.

4.Individualism

Before the 18^th Century, few Europeans concerned themselves and discovered their individual identities.

Individualism seems like the 『heterogeneity』,but I don't think so. Heterogeneity was concerned people to people, and Individualism was concerned people themselves. 

The 18^th Century was also the industrial revolution. In this time, people have more and more opportunity to find a job and not necessarily so persistence their born. 

The mercantilism and capitalism was to mushroom like bamboo shoots after a spring rain. Everybody concerned their money and right, the Individualism was became a characteristic of romanticism.

5.Emotionalism

In this period people have a slogan was 『free expression』. Peoples got a emotion liberation, and made their feelings like a dust flying in the winds. But, sometiomes people will become sentimental and to exaggerate their feelings.

6.Nationalism and Universalism

In 19^th Century Romantics took every opportunity to emphasize the theme of 『national』. 

Maybe it was caused by the emotion freedom that peoples started concentrated their folks. Beethoven transform it to symphony. Then, these oppressor couldn't keep control their colony because ethnic started to fight for their right.

The universality was a kind of mutuality. For example, Franch saw everybody included foreigner were equality.
