明亮天使走道 (中、英、西文)王克難  Claire Wang-Lee

琴終於從了她爸爸的心願跟瑞結婚了.她,出自外交名門跟家世曾顯嚇的瑞,門當戶對,人人稱羨.

琴從小在外國長大, 她爸爸退休後舉家從歐洲遷到邁亞米, 她申請到東部名理工大學,一人北上,在學校裏唸天文物理,遇到了德國來棕髮碧眼的布魯克,兩人一見鍾情.

布魯克的父母非常喜歡琴, 當她為家中一份子.

而她外交官的爸爸早為他家長女琴看上他大學同學的獨子,瑞.

瑞,熱愛水族,年紀輕輕已是海洋生物博士,將來會承繼他父親從東方老家帶到邁亞米的巨大家產, 在一次聚會中他認識琴後,馬上追到北方.

琴愛天上數不清的星星, 但拗不過她親愛的爸爸,終於回到南方,同意跟瑞結婚.

 那場盛大的南方婚禮給邁亞米的僑胞大開了眼界.

不過琴堅持婚禮後要到大峽谷渡蜜月.那附近有她和布魯克共事過的羅威爾天文台.

在大峽谷,琴跟瑞選了一家安靜的旅館.她們去走明亮天使步道.天氣突然變壞,狂風暴雨,差點沒被刮下深淵,葬身谷底. 半夜他們才爬上谷頂,摸回住的小旅館,

櫃台沒人,燈光暗淡.

琴看見櫃檯旁邊有留言板,上面有一行留言.

字跡模糊,但工整,留言寫著, " ... 試與妳會合. B...." 那個不完全的名字只看得出第一個向左斜的字母B,像布魯克寫給琴的情書上他簽的.

她心不覺一跳,但是她跟瑞實在太累了.

第二天,仍是大風雨. 待了三天,琴與瑞提早結束蜜月旅行,回到邁亞米.

家裏有一個電報,是從亞利松那羅威爾天文台輾轉轉來,德國布魯克父母發的.

布魯克回歐洲家渡假,在阿爾卑斯山滑雪,雪崩失蹤.

日子正是琴與瑞走明亮天使步道那天.

Bright Angel Trail

Jean obeyed her father and married Ray. Jean was from a prominent, diplomatic family as well as Ray. Everyone agreed that they were a couple made in heaven.

She grew up in foreign countries. Once retired, Jean's father moved his family from Europe to Miami. Jean applied to a technology institute up north to study Astrophysics, that's where she met Burke. Burke was a young, blue-eyed man from Germany. The two fell in love at first sight. Burke's parents loved Jean as one of the family.

Jean's Father had long set his eyes on Ray for his eldest daughter. Ray, the only son of his college schoolmate loved marine animals and was already a young  accomplished PhD of Marine Biology. Being the only son, Ray would also inherit his family's vast wealth brought from the Orient. After he met Jean at a family party, he pursued her north.

Jean had always loved the stars in the sky, as much as she loved her father, whom she would never want to disappoint. Jean finally decided to part with Burke to come home and marry Ray.

The Southern wedding was the talk of the Chinese community in Miami.

For the honeymoon, Jean insisted on going to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. She and Burke had once worked together in the Lowell Observatory nearby.

After they checked into the small quiet hotel, Jean and Ray decided to go for a hike down the Bright Angel Trail. The weather suddenly changed and a storm developed from nowhere. They almost perished in the rain and gale-force wind, but were finally able to climb back to the rim and return to the safety of their hotel by midnight.

The lobby was deserted. The light was dim. By the counter there was a blackboard for messages. There was one almost unreadable message , "....tried to meet...B...".  The smeared signature started with a B.... It had the same slant Jean was used to in the love notes to her by Burke.

Jean's heart jumped. But she and Ray were deadly tired and they went up to their room.

The bad weather continued. They stayed for three more days and cut short their honeymoon and returned to Miami.

There was a telegram for her forwarded by the Lowell Conservatory. It was from Burke's parents.

Burke had gone home to Germany for vacation and went skiing in the French Alps.... There was an avalanche, and he hadn't been heard from since.

The avalanche happened the same day Jean and Ray went down the Bright Angel Trail.

Bright Angel Trail

Jean obedeció a su padre y se casó con Ray. Jean era de una familia prominente, diplomática, así como Ray. Todos coincidieron en que eran una pareja hecha en el cielo.

Ella creció en países extranjeros. Una vez retirado, el padre de Jean mudó con su familia desde Europa a Miami. Jean aplica a un instituto de tecnología hacia el norte para estudiar Astrofísica, ahí es donde conoció a Burke. Burke era un hombre joven, de ojos azules, de Alemania. Los dos se enamoraron a primera vista. Los padres de Burke amaban Jean como una de la familia.

El padre de Jean había puesto mucho sus ojos en Ray por su hija mayor. Ray, el único hijo de su compañero de escuela universitaria amaba a los animales marinos y ya era un joven de doctorado realizado de Biología Marina. Siendo el único hijo, Ray también heredaría vasta riqueza de su familia traído de Oriente. Después conoció a Jean en una fiesta familiar, persiguió a su norte.

Jean siempre había amado las estrellas en el cielo, tanto como amaba a su padre, a quien nunca querría decepcionar. Jean finalmente decidió separarse de Burke para volver a casa y casarse con Ray.

La boda del Sur fue la comidilla de la comunidad china en Miami.

Para la luna de miel, Jean insistió en ir al Gran Cañón en Arizona. Ella y Burke vez habían trabajado juntos en el Observatorio Lowell cerca.

Después de que nos registramos en el hotel pequeño y tranquilo, Jean y Ray decidieron ir para una caminata por el Bright Angel Trail. El tiempo cambió de repente y una tormenta desarrolló a partir de la nada. Casi perecieron en la lluvia y el viento huracanado, pero fueron finalmente capaces de subir de nuevo al borde y volver a la seguridad de su hotel antes de la medianoche.

El vestíbulo estaba desierto. La luz era tenue. Por el mostrador había una pizarra de mensajes. Había un mensaje casi ilegibles, ".... trató de satisfacer ... B ...". La firma untado comenzado con una B .... Tenía la misma inclinación Jean estaba acostumbrado en las notas de amor a ella por Burke.

El corazón de Jean saltó. Pero ella y Ray eran mortales cansados y se fueron a su habitación.

Continuó el mal tiempo. Se quedaron durante tres días más y truncadas su luna de miel y regresaron a Miami.

Hubo un telegrama para ella remitida por el Conservatorio de Lowell. Fue a partir de los padres de Burke.

Burke había ido a casa a Alemania para las vacaciones y fue a esquiar en los Alpes franceses .... Hubo una avalancha, y él no se había sabido nada desde entonces.

La avalancha ocurrió el mismo día Jean y Ray fue por el Bright Angel Trail.
