鳴沙山的小駱駝

我們的作家交流團在日出前騎駱駝到了敦煌鳴沙山, 每個人都爬上了坡頂. 當地導遊說鳴沙山已經很久不 "鳴" 了. 它 "鳴"是因為千年之前有千名軍馬突然消失在那沙丘之下.

至今馬不時會在下面嘶叫.

那天早上牠們沒叫. 也許太多遊客嚇壞了牠們.

The Baby Camel of the Howling Sands

Our writers' group had just taken a camel ride in the Howling Sands in the Gobi Desert in Gansu.  Everyone had climbed to the top before dawn. The desert had not been howling regularly for a long time, we were told by the local guide. It howled because an army of a thousand soldiers had mysteriously disappeared underneath these rolling sand dunes more than a thousand years ago. The vanished horses still neighed at times.

But they didn't this morning. Maybe too many footsteps of the tourists had chased the ghost sounds away.

El bebé del camello de las Arenas Borrascosas

Nuestro grupo de de escritores acababa de tomar un paseo en camello en las Arenas Borrascosas en el desierto de Gobi en Gansu. Todo el mundo había subido a la cima antes del amanecer. El desierto no había sido borracosa regularidad durante mucho tiempo, nos dijeron el guía. Se aullaba porque un ejército de mil soldados había desaparecido misteriosamente debajo de estas dunas de arena, hace más de mil años. Los caballos desaparecido relinchaban  todavía a veces.

Pero no lo hicieron esta mañana. Tal vez demasiados pasos de los turistas habían perseguido el sonido de los fantasinas.

清晨天空被洗得一片清藍. 溫柔的沙丘在朝日下閃爍. 我在滑下山時聽到微微的嘆息, 那是風吹過沙上的聲音,不是從沙丘下發出來的.

In the early morning the sky was a washed blue. The undulating dunes sparkled in the rising sun. We did hear a faint sighing on the way down. It was the breeze brushing against the surface of the sand and not from under.

En la madrugada el cielo era de un azul lavado. Las dunas ondulantes brillaban en el sol naciente. Hicimos escuchar un gemido débil en el camino hacia abajo. Era la brisa rozando contra la superficie de la arena y no de debajo.

長途旅遊車在等我們. 我們只有二十分鐘買明信片和當地出的玉. 我想去駱駝隊照一張小駱駝的相片.

我跑到駝隊, 駱駝們都坐在那裏, 牠們的厚眼皮下墜著. 小駱駝緊靠著它媽媽,眼睛張得大大地.

The bus was waiting. We had less than twenty minutes to buy some postcards or some local jade. I wanted to go back to take a snapshot of the baby camel that had come along with its mother during the trip. I rushed to the camels. They were all sitting down, their thick-browed eyelids dropping. The baby camel nudged against its mother, its eyes open.

 El autobús estaba esperando. Teníamos menos de veinte minutos para comprar algunas cartas postales o algún jade local. Quería volver a tomar una photo del bebé  del camello que había llegado junto con su madre durante el viaje. Corrí a los camellos. Todos estaban sentados, sus párpados gruesos de la ceja. El bebé del camello dio un codazo contra de su madre, sus ojos abiertos.

我的相機按不下去. 自從在長城上把相機摔了一下,它就高興時按得下,不高興時按不下.　我不知如何是好.

小駱駝感到我的焦急, 牠掙扎著要站起來, 脖子上的小鈴鐺丁當響著.

駱駝主人說那鈴鐺是給帶隊的駱駝聽的. 牠走在駝隊前面第一個,領著牠的隊.有時其他駱駝不聽話，牠的主人用柳條打一下牠的臀部,叫牠去管.

The camera didn't work.

Since I dropped it on the Great Wall, it had become temperamental. Now it again refused to click.

The baby camel sensed my agitation. It jerked to stand up and stood on its little floppy pads. The bells on its neck made a tickling sound unlike those bells on the grown-up camels. The bells were, I was told,  the detecting tools of the leading camel. It earned its place to keep the procession in orderly fashion and took instructions only from its owner, usually a whack on the butt.

La cámara no funcionó.

Desde que me dejé caer en la Gran Muralla, se había convertido temperamental. Ahora de nuevo se negó a hacer clic.

El bebé del camello sintió mi agitación. Se tiró a ponerse de pie y se detuvo en sus pequeñas almohadillas flexibles. Las campanas en el cuello hizo un sonido de cosquillas a diferencia de aquellas campanas en los camellos adultos. Las campanas fueron, me dijeron, las herramientas de detección del camello que era el lider. Se ganó su lugar para mantener la procesión en forma ordenada y tomó instrucciones sólo de su dueño, por lo general un golpe en el trasero.

我走近小駱駝,想假如我能摸一下它的臉或者頭,我就真要設法把它帶回美國了.

駱駝隊的主人來了,嘴邊叨著一支煙. 他有點不好意思地看著我,因為我告訴過他,抽菸對他身體有害,鳴沙山沙下面的軍和馬也都不會喜歡

I tried to move a little nearer to the baby camel. If I only touched its cheek or head, I would have wanted to bring it back to America with me if it was feasible.

The owner came toward me, a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth. He smiled sheepishly. During the trip earlier, I had told him that smoking was bad for his health and also making the ghost soldiers under the howling sand angry because it polluted the air.

Traté de mover un poco más cerca al bebé del camello. Si yo toqué su mejilla o la cabeza, me hubiera gustado traerlo de vuelta a América conmigo si era factible.

El dueño vino hacia mí, con un cigarrillo colgando de la comisura de la boca. Él sonrió tímidamente. Durante el viaje anterior, yo le había dicho que fumar era malo para su salud y también hacer que los soldados fantasmas bajo la arena grita de chólera porque contamina el aire.

「你看,我相機又不靈光,照不到小駱駝了.＂

他用他煙熏黃了的大手摸了摸小駱駝的脖子,小駱駝叫了兩聲. 他把小駱駝的鈴鐺－兩個穿在一根褪了色紅繩子,中間空的小圓鈴鐺解了下來,放在我手心裏. 我大喜望外.

"I wanted to take a picture of the baby camel. It's so adorable but my camera is not working," I lamented.

The man rubbed the back of the baby camel's neck with his big hand, yellowed by cigarette smoking. The baby camel made a tiny whine. He unfastened the bells, two little round hollow bells on faded red strings from its neck and gave them to me. I was overjoyed.

"Quería hacer una foto del camello bebé. Es tan adorable pero mi cámara no está funcionando", me lamenté.

El dueño frotó la parte posterior del cuello del camello bebé con su mano grande, descolorado por el tabaquismo. El camello bebé hizo un pequeño gemido. Se desabrochó las campanas, dos campanillas con huecos redondos en hilos rojos desteñidos de su cuello y me las dio. Yo estaba muy contento.

「我欠你多少錢？」我問.

「不要錢,它一生下來就繫著的,」駱駝主人說.

我又謝了他。

「帶你的朋友們來玩,」他說.

"How much do I owe you?"

"Nothing," he said. He took the cigarette out of  his mouth and stepped on it. The cigarette disappeared under the sand.

I thanked him again.

"Come back soon with your friend," he said.

"Cuánto te debo?"

"Nada," dijo. Tomó el cigarrillo de la boca y la pisó. El cigarrillo desapareció bajo la arena.

Le di las gracias de nuevo.

"Vuelve pronto con su amigo," dijo.

「我會的. 記得少抽菸啊！」

我揮手跟他說再見. 小駱駝的鈴鐺

"I will. Remember try not to smoke. I want to hear the horses and soldiers under the sand."

I waved him good-bye. The bells of the baby camel made a clear sound in my raised hand.

"Voy a. Recuerde tratar de no fumar. Quiero oír los caballos y soldados bajo la arena."

Le saludé adiós. Las campanas de la camello bebé hicieron un sonido claro en mi mano levantada.

那次鳴沙山遊後,我飛去台灣看我母親,她一直想念流放在戈壁沙漠裏的舅舅. 我把小駱駝的鈴鐺留給了母親.

When the whole tour ended, I flew to Taiwan to see my mother. She had always wanted to visit the Gobi desert where she had lost contact with my uncle. I left the bells of the baby camel with my mother.

Cuando todo el viaje terminó, volé a Taiwán para ver a mi madre. Ella siempre había querido visitar el desierto de Gobi, donde había perdido la contacta con mi tío.

Dejé las campanas del camello bebé con mi madre.
