Tales of a Grandmother-The Cuentos de una abuela-La Spanish edited by 甘夢寧 1. The Little Centipede When I visited my sister who used to live in I liked to swim in the early morning. One day as I was stepping into the water, I noticed a little centipede with a brown head and little red feet was lifting its head over the rim of the pool as if wanting to drink water from the pool. Lo and behold, it fell into the water and sank to the bottom. It lay there without any movement. I hastily tried to get some leaves to dish it out but with no avail. I looked hard and found a long pole with a net attached to it. I finally was able to get the little centipede into the net and got it out of the water. It was well over ten minutes. The little centipede lay still on the ground. Too late. I sadly went back to my swim while praying for the lifeless little centipede. The sun was burning high above my head. I ducked under the water. A couple of laps later I resurfaced. When I looked again, the little centipede had disappeared. It must have crawled to a safe place. I was overjoyed. Two Birds In the front yard of my sister's house in Sometimes they flew down to the slab ground, looked at each other and then moved in circles like a dancing couple, always sing, a simple duet, so early, so happy in the fresh air of Dos pájaros En el patio delantero de la casa de mi hermana en A veces volaban hacia el suelo de losa, se miraron y luego mavieron en círculos 3. A Mother Monkey and Her Baby Behind of my sister's house in One day l left a big handkerchief with a silk screened lion on it and which I bought in The housekeeper said the monkey must have taken it. I went into the woods. The dense rain forest was like a fairy-tale. There, high up on a tree was my handkerchief with the silk-screened lion's head hanging over a branch. I was beyond words. I didn't stay long because the housekeeper had said there were poisonous snakes around. The night before I left for We drove downhill and reached the one-way road to the airport. A mother monkey and her baby appeared alongside the car. My friend slowed down immediately. He said monkeys were owners of the land before humans and they should have the right of way. There was no time to stop to say goodbye. My friend drove on. I caught a glimpse of the white spot on the baby monkey's forehead as it followed its mommy as they walked into the early morning mist.
