From early this morning my wife and I was pushing our somewhat sluggish son get well prepared with packing luggage, so as to catch a flight at noon to some place in Louisiana, to join his fiancee who was there spending Christmas Eve with her mother, my son's future mother-in-law. Actually, he came to our place on last Saturday, already having spent a week with us; but we didn't have much time getting together as he used to be a kid partly because he still had to work last week on a remote basis, partly because he already had a life of his own, which has been quite different from ours. After sending him off on the jet plane at airport, we went to our daughter's. Spending Christas Eve with her, our son-in-law, and our granddaughter at her home? Not exactly. They left for Upper State of New York yesterday, joining the parents of my son-in-law's for the holidays there. But why must we come to their house if they are out of town? Taking care an empty house? No, taking care of their two cats instead, as well as collecting mail and packages, and so on. So still my wife and I were lonely in this silent night. P.S. En route returning to our own place, we wanted to drop in on a Chinese supermarket for something. Oh my goodness, there were more shoppers than that of usual weekends. We couldn't even find a parking space there in the plaza, so we went on going home. (Apparently, Christmas means little to Chinese immigrants.) |
