The Rivalry Between Two First Ladies---Political or Personal

Michelle Obama gave a lame excuse that she needs to attend her daughter's graduation this weekend, so she will not be able to accompany her husband to meet President and Mrs. Xi at a resort in California.

It was a lame excuse, no doubt about it. Let me put in this way, as a saying goes, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Being a salient public figure, her absence would be a breach of protocol in an occasion of diplomatic visit. Is Mrs. Xi, Peng Liyuan fond of those etiquettes? Is also the self-effacing person like Mrs. Ma Ying-jeou? So Michelle has to force herself to do the honor as a first lady. If she insists on not going, there must be some real reason, or a hidden agenda.

A political motivation trying to humiliate China? I don't think so because it is not necessary and not worthy for the U.S.. So the very reason must be a personal one: Michelle doesn't want Peng Liyuan to steal the limelight which used to be hers only. As a pure woman, Michelle is kind of an amazon, with a height over six feet tall(if she becomes more matronly, she will scare you to death when emerging from dark, no kidding.). How about her aspect? I have no comments. Relatively, Peng Liyuan is kind of a petite lady with graceful presence and beauty. As far as their professions are concerned, Michelle is a graduate from a elite school(Harvard?)and a lawyer, while Peng Liyuan is a renowned vocalist and a PLA major general. Who is more brilliant? You make the call.

Maybe we should focus more on the talk itself between two leaders, especially regarding the "arrangement" on the future of Taiwan.
