Jeremy in Taiwan

Jeremy Lin arrived Taiwan via China Airlines the other day. (I’m glad he chose CI.) I paid little heed to the news regarding his activities in Taiwan, actually commercial hypes in disguise, because most of my time was devoted to Olympic in thise days, but I just noticed one thing that he wrote “I love China Airlines” with his autograph on a note. However, the way he wrote that simple sentence had been kind of strange. He scribbled “I love China” on the first line, and then a transformed “4irlines” on the second. You know, China Airlines is a a proper noun, and the two words should be inseparable in writing. So he deliberately wrote that way to hint at something else.

I guess Lin was fully aware that the note will be soon spread through the media and the internet, including in those of Mainland China. You can presume that he was trying to curry favor with the huge fans in China, which will bring him and Houston Rockets immense business opportunities. Hey, he is a Harvard kid, majoring Economics, and defintely knows what to do to make best of the publicity.

Like I have said many times before, professional atheltes care mostly for thier pecuniary interests and fames. So what we should do is hoping he will acquit himself brilliantly in the next season and seasons to come if we love him for his parents are from Taiwan. Nothing else, especially not bestowing upon him the term I disdain most: “The Pride of Taiwan”.
