Well, the subject Luoyang Bridge is not located in Henan Province; instead, it is in Quanzhou, Fujian Province.

The bridge was built in 1053 and completed in 1059, when Quanzhou was an emporium of world trade. In order to further connect with Fuzhou City and other hinderlands to expand the volume of trade, the governor, Cai Xiang (蔡襄), mapped out the project to build a bridge over the Luoyang River.

The 730-meter-long bridge is made of thousands of cube stones. I just cannot imagine what kind of techniques Mr. Cai and his men applied to build such a long stone bridge nearly a thousand years ago, although a memorial inscription says they used "transporting stone slabs by using buoyancy forces and waves" and "reinforcing the foundation by cultivating oysters." I have no idea what the technologies were, but I believe they must have been the most sophisticated engineering in the world in medieval times.

On the north side of the bridge, there is a memorial statue of Mr. Cai Xiang.
