If you ask someone who has never been to Wuyisan, what is his or her stereotypical impression of it? I guess most of the replies will be tea from there. In addition to its astonishing beauty, which has earned itself the honor of being one of the UNESCO world cultural heritages, Wuyisan also acquires UNESCO intangible cultural heritage for its unique and delicate technique of baking. Therefore, Wuyisan is the only laureate who owns the recognition of the two items. The eminence of Wuyisan tea is its Da Hong Pao (大紅袍), a kind of half-baked tea that is similar to Oolong tea. (Previously, I thought Wuyisan produced only black tea; I was wrong.) The most famous Da Hong Pao is from six trees grown on a cliff, but the trees are too old to be leaf-picking anymore, so they are under protection and have become an attraction site only. Many poets have praised the tea of Wuyisan. I have found two of them, as attached below. Likewise, I would translate them later only if I could. 朱熹 春谷: 武夷高處是蓬萊, 採取靈根手自栽。 地僻芳菲鎮長在, 谷寒蜂蝶未全來。 紅裳似欲留人醉, 錦障何妨為客開。 咀罷醒心何處所, 遠山重疊翠成堆。
范仲淹 武夷茶歌:
年年春自東南來,建溪先暖冰微開。 溪邊奇茗冠天下,武夷仙人從古栽。 |
