My wife has been afflicted with cataracts for a long time before she finally decided to receive eye surgery recently. No surprise, she selected the Veteran General Hospital for the operation. One eye at a time. The doctor did not ask my wife what she preferred: the national insurance-covered traditional method or the sophisticated laser at the patients own expense, and he directly applied the former one on her right eye. (Maybe the doctor thought we could not afford the relatively expensive laser.) Apparently, the surgery was successful, but it required several times the removal of stitches, which had lasted for several months and had yet to be finished. Yesterday, she received another surgery on her left eye. This time she actively requested using the laser one. It cost her over 70 thousand Taiwan dollars for no stitches to be removed any more; instead, she must wear an eye pad for one day and a pair of sunglasses for a couple days. Thanks to Heaven, she sees the light again! |
