客行新安道，When walking on Xinan Road,

肥男有母送， Mothers sent off healthy boys. 瘦男獨伶俜。 None cared for skinny orphans.
白水暮東流， The river keeps running easterly; 青山猶哭聲。 mountains are rift with wailing.
“莫自使眼枯， "Dont shed all your tears; 收汝淚縱橫。 Please stop crying any more.
眼枯即見骨， Youll die of draining tears, 天地終無情！ and Heaven wont pity you!
我軍取相州， Now we are offending Xiang,
日夕望其平。 We hoped to recover it.
豈意賊難料， But the rebels are unpredictable; 歸軍星散營。 Our army was defeated again.
就糧近故壘， Lets return and feed ourselves, 練卒依舊京。 and retrain near the capital.
掘壕不到水， Entrenchments digging is easy; 牧馬役亦輕。 Horse feeding is not hard.
況乃王師順， Were on the right side. 撫養甚分明。 Army will treat you well.
送行勿泣血， Dont be sad in leave-taking; 僕射如父兄。” just follow fatherly Marshal Guo.
