Most likely all of you must have known the storyline of subject one of the greatest operas in history: Madam Butterfly by Puccini. Yesterday afternoon my wife and I went to CKS Memorial Hall to watch the opera performed by National Symphony Orchestra. What was about the scenery and the performance by the actors and actresses on stage? No, there were only arias sung and the music accompanied by Taipei Philharmonic. Nontheless, the "performance" was great, and they, as well as the conductor and all members of the ensemble, received standing ovation, and together they had to give curtain call many times in return. You know, I must admit I am a lowbrow guy(though I am not an arty person, either.), having little knowledge or even interest in arts, e.g. operas. So throughout the entire performance I had been focusing on the big screen to watch the captions rendered by Chinese and English and to note the differnces thereof. (The original lyrics must be written in Italian.) FYI, unlike the previous two occassions at the same venure, this time I did not nod off in the middle of the show. |
