Ever since I was a kid, Nanmen Market has been a place my families and I often to visit, especially on the days before new year festival every year. Recently, because I would spent the festival with my kids in Bay Area, so such a thing of a "ritual" discontinued, but not so this year, due to some reasons. This morning, my wife and I went to the market. But we found it had already relocated and moved to a temporary site on Hangzhou S Road. A shuttle bus took us to the new place: a cleaner, seemingly more spacious market mainly for different kinds of deli food as usual. There were not that crowded shoppers as that used to be, maybe the drones of people have not yet peaked as of today. A stall keeper told me the original site on Roosevelt Road now underwent a reconstruction to accommodate a new subway line, and it will take at least THREE more years before she can go back to her old "home". O my goodness! PS All transactions made in cash only, no credit cards, no QR pay, no nothing. FYI, three months ago when we were at some deli market in Xinjiang, all payments must be made in Wechat Pay or AliPay, no cash accepted. So we had to proceed to the counter at entrance to deposit some cashes in exchange of a temporay, same-amount Wechat Pay so as to have our supper that evening. |
