Here is your corrected text, with the grammar improved, and simplified Chinese converted to Traditional Chinese:
Let’s talk in English.
My name is Garrett,
and my name is Esther. Today we have a travel lesson.
That’s right. Where are we traveling?
We’re going to a part of the world called the Middle East, to the country of Jordan.
Today’s title is "Visit Petra."
Yes, visiting Petra.
Petra is the city in Jordan that we will be talking about. It’s a very old city.
Yes, it is. It was built long ago. Now, thousands of tourists visit this site every year. Not too many people live there. It’s more of a museum or an archaeological site, right?
We’re going to learn lots about Petra in today’s reading. Garrett, can you help us?
The country of Jordan is rich in history and culture. Out in the desert lies the amazing ancient city of Petra.
Most people spend only a few hours in the area, but spending a night in the small town of Wadi Musa is best.
Then you can see the sunrise and sunset in Petra. Those are the best times to see the city. To get into Petra, walk through a path through the gorge that leads you to the Treasury.
This marvelous building carved into the rock is Petra’s most famous site.
Thank you so much, Garrett, for sharing so much about Petra. Now let’s go to today’s "Find It" question.
Our question is: How do you get into Petra?
How do you get into Petra?
Yes, friends, if you want to go there, how do you get there? Well, we will find out in our lesson today.
Now, let’s go to Sonya, who will teach us our keywords.
Julie
James
Is that in the country of Jordan?
Petra is an ancient city in the desert.
Sunrise and Sunset are the best times to see the city.
The path leads you to the Treasury.
What are you doing, Julie?
"I’m reading travel blogs just for fun."
"That’s cheaper than traveling."
"I know, but it’s not as fun. I’m reading about Petra."
"Is that in the country of Jordan?"
"It is. Petra is an amazing ancient city out in the desert."
"It has buildings carved into the rock, right?"
"Yes, and they are magnificent."
Julie is doing something that I love to do. You know, sometimes we don’t have the chance to travel to a faraway country, but we can still read about those places and look at pictures, right?
And that is what she is doing. She is reading travel blogs just for fun. Let’s talk about this word “blog.”
If someone writes information about something on the internet and they want other people to know about it, we can call that a blog, right?
A blog is not like a professional newspaper article. It’s just people who want to share their ideas or experiences.
And of course, reading a travel blog is a lot cheaper than traveling yourself.
It sure is, but Julie says it’s not as fun. What city is she reading about, Garrett?
She’s reading about Petra.
Petra is a city in the country of Jordan. This is in the Middle East, next to countries like Syria, Iraq, and Israel.
It is a special and old country full of interesting sites.
Alright, let’s talk about this word “country.”
The country is where you are living. A country has its own government. If you live in a country, you have a passport, right?
You can see lots of different countries when you look at a map. The lines show where each country ends.
Julie says that Petra in Jordan is an amazing ancient city out in the desert.
Yes, Petra is an amazing ancient city. If something is ancient, it means it’s very, very old. And where is it?
It’s out in the desert.
Right, the desert is a place where it doesn’t rain a lot. In fact, it almost never rains usually. Deserts are quite hot.
And that word desert looks a lot like one other word, doesn’t it?
It sure does. It looks like the word dessert, which has two "s"s instead of one "s." Desserts are things like chocolates and cookies.
So make sure you don’t mix up those two words: dessert and desert.
I was always taught that "dessert" has two "s"s because you want more of it, but you don’t want more desert, friends.
It’s time to go and learn from Sonya now.
Petra is an amazing ancient city out in the desert.
"They had a picnic out in the forest."
"They ate at a cute little restaurant out in the countryside."
"This trail leads out into the mountains."
Thanks, Sonya. So, we learn a little bit more about how Petra was made. James asks if Petra was carved into the rock.
Right, Petra does have buildings carved into the rock. Now, if you carve something, you’re using a tool like a knife to make marks into something hard, like a piece of wood or a rock.
So, these buildings weren’t built up one brick at a time. They were carved out of the mountainside.
And they are magnificent. If something is magnificent, it means it’s wonderful and amazing. They are magnificent.
That’s today’s calendar frame:

They are magnificent.
They are magnificent.
Some places have beautiful rainforests.
They are magnificent.
Some places have beautiful mountains.
They are magnificent.
Some places have beautiful beaches.
They are magnificent.
What does this place have?
You and me, and we are magnificent.
Yes, we are. Oh yeah.
They are magnificent.
They are magnificent.

Friends, it’s time for a quick break. We’ll be right back.
Welcome back to the show.
Everyone, have you ever dreamed of living in a cave?
Have you ever been to a cave?
Have you ever experienced what it’s like visiting a cave?
Well, the buildings in this town of Petra are like caves, but much more magnificent.
Let’s get back to our conversation.
What are you learning about Petra?
Sunrise and sunset are the best times to see the city.
You can stay near it in the town of Wadi Musa.
How do you get to Petra from the town?
You walk through a gorge called the Sikh. The path leads you to the Treasury.
What’s that? A beautiful ancient building.
It’s probably Petra’s most famous site.
Alright, so we learned that Julie was reading travel blogs about Petra, and James wants to know more, right?
He asks, "What are you learning about Petra?"
He wants to see what Julie is reading about.
Well, Julie says that sunrise and sunset are the best times to see the city.
These are, of course, the times when the sun comes up (or rises) and when the sun goes down (or sets), right?
So, think of these two words as sunrise and sunset.
Those are good words to remember.
Exactly, so those are some good times to go and see the city, because you can watch the sun over the city and see those great sights.
And where can you stay when you visit?
Well, when you visit, you can stay in a town called Wadi Musa.
It’s a town where you can see the sunrise and sunset, yeah, and it’s right next to Petra.
So, it’s the perfect place to stay.
But how do you get to Petra from the town? Can you just drive over?
Well, that leads us to our "Find It" question.
Friends, did you get the answer?
Our question is: How do you get into Petra?
You walk through the Sikh.
Yes, there’s a gorge called the Sikh. A gorge is like a long valley. It was probably cut out by a river long ago, and this path will lead you to the treasury, right?
When you are walking through this gorge, you will see mountains or trees on both sides, and it will lead you on a special road to a place called the treasury. If someone leads you, they are showing you which way to go. If you go on a tour, there might be a guide who is leading you or showing you where to go. But here, in this sentence, we are saying that this gorge shows you the path. It leads you, right? It takes you there.
Well, James wants to know: What is the treasury? He asks, “What’s that?”
It is a beautiful ancient building. Julie says it’s probably Petra’s most famous site.
And here’s Sonya to tell us more:
Julie說一座美輪美奂的古老神殿,應該是佩特拉最負盛名的景點。
It’s probably Petra’s most famous site.
The colorful balloons in the sky were a beautiful sight
There are many sights to see in Taipei
This is the site of the new children’s playground
They chose a good site for their flower garden
Thank you, Sonya!
Now, friends, you might hear that word "treasury" elsewhere. A treasury is sometimes part of a government or a special building that deals with money. Money is usually stored or kept there, right? And you’ll hear this word "site" when you talk about visiting different places. The places you visit are called the sites that you see.
Exactly! Well, friends, we learned quite a bit in our lesson today, so let’s review what we learned together.
Here is your first key word: country.
Country – How many countries did you visit?
Desert – It’s very dry in the desert.
Sunrise – The sky is beautiful at sunrise.
Sunset – What time is sunset?
Lead – The trail led them to a lake.
Friends, those are today’s key words. Keep practicing!
And now, it’s your turn. The words for today are country, desert, sunrise, sunset, and lead. Now, it’s your turn to use them in a sentence.
First:
Bring water when you go to the __.
That’s right! Bring water when you go to the desert.
Next:
The sign __ us the wrong way.
You got it! The sign led us the wrong way.
Next:
He was up early to see the __.
Correct! He was up early to see the sunrise.
Next:
Did you visit the __ of Japan?
Great job! Did you visit the country of Japan?
Last one:
The sky is colorful at __.
Good! The sky is colorful at sunset.
Friends, did you guess all the right words? Great! I’ll see you next time for your turn.
What are you doing, Julie?
I’m reading travel blogs just for fun.
That’s cheaper than traveling.
I know, but it’s not as fun.
I’m reading about Petra. Is that in the country of Jordan?
It is! Petra is an amazing ancient city out in the desert.
It has buildings carved into the rock, right?
Yes, and they are magnificent.
What are you learning about Petra?
Sunrise and sunset are the best times to see the city.
You can stay near it in the town of Wadimusa.
How do you get to Petra from the town?
You walk through a gorge called the Sikh.
The path leads you to the treasury.
What’s that? A beautiful ancient building.
It’s probably Petra’s most famous site.
Hey, James, what are you doing?
I’m reading a travel blog about the country of Jordan.
Really? Why?
Just for fun. Look, this is the city of Petra.
Oh, can you see camels there?
Yes, and look, it has buildings carved into the rocks.
Oh, that’s interesting.
That’s magnificent! The best time to visit is sunrise or sunset.
How do you get to those buildings?
You walk from a town through a gorge.
The path leads you to the treasury.
The treasury? Ah, what’s that? A beautiful ancient building.
Hey, let’s go to Petra. Can we get there before sunset?
Ginger, Jordan is on the other side of the world.
Oh, then we better hurry! Let’s go!
Oh, hey there! My name is Gabe, and it’s fun time! Welcome to the desert!
Yeah, there’s a lot to see here, especially sand.
You’re right about that… a talking camel!
So tell me about the desert.
Well, the desert has two kinds of weather.
Oh, what are the two kinds of weather?
Well, there’s hot and hotter.
You’re right about that! Very funny, by the way.
The desert is a great place. A lot of movie stars visit here.
Movie stars? Really? Well, how do the movie stars keep cool?
Well, they have a lot of fans. Ha ha ha!
Movie stars have fans? Yeah, that’s actually pretty funny.
But tell me, really, how do you keep cool?
Easy! I eat ice cream.
Oh, I love ice cream! What kind of ice cream do you have in the desert?
Melted ice cream.
Hey, I have a question for you.
You have a question? What’s the question?
What is the coolest letter in the alphabet?
The coolest letter? Letters? Hmm, A, B, C?
No, the coolest letter is the letter T.
The letter T?
Yes, iced tea!
It’s really cool. Ha ha!
Iced tea! But not just the one letter, T. Tea!
Very, very funny. Yeah. Hey, there are two glasses here.
That’s right.
Well, this glass is full of water.
Yes.
That’s for you in case you get thirsty.
Oh, well, what about this glass? It’s empty.
That’s in case you’re not thirsty.
Ha ha ha!
Very funny again! This is one funny camel!
You know what? Though, I think it’s time to say goodbye.
Well, goodbye, everyone. Keep cool!
I’m a big fan.
When I was in university, I got to learn all about ancient cultures and cities, and places like Petra are wonderful places to see these kinds of things.
They actually carved the city out of rock. That’s amazing! Did you learn about the treasury when you were studying?
I did not. I never learned about Jordan, but I’m interested to learn about it now.
I can’t imagine being someone who lived there, having to grab my tools every morning and chip away at the rock all day.
And I’m sure the people there also enjoyed the sunrise and the sunset.
Oh, I’m sure.
Well, Jordan is an amazing country in an interesting part of the world.
And Petra is not the only place you can visit there.
I’m sure we’ll talk about some other interesting places tomorrow.
Now, Jordan is a country in a part of the world we call the Middle East. Other countries in the Middle East include Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, and Syria.
Some of these countries have been somewhat dangerous places to visit in recent years, but if you do go, they are full of history and very friendly people.
Friends, this is all we have for today, but we’ll continue talking about Petra tomorrow.
That’s right, here on Let’s Talk in English. Goodbye!

Hello, friends!
Welcome to "Let’s Talk in English." My name is Esther.
And my name is Garrett. Thanks for joining us for another travel lesson.
The name of our lesson is Visiting Petra.
Visiting Petra.
Yes, this is a special ancient site in the country of Jordan.
When you go there, you can see a city built hundreds of years ago, carved out of rock.
Right, it is very magnificent, and in Petra, the land is often very dry. There are many parts that are part of deserts.
Yeah, it’s in the desert.
There are some things to keep in mind when you visit a desert.
You need to wear the right clothes. Actually, many people wear long sleeves in the desert so that the sun doesn’t burn their skin.
Right, in the desert, you will see lots of sand, and deserts are very dry. Make sure you drink plenty of water if you go and visit Petra.
And friends, make sure you’re listening closely today because, of course, we have a "find it" question: What was the monastery at first?
What was the monastery at first?
You might not know what the word "monastery" is, but we’ll tell you about it.
Yes, we will. Just listen closely for that answer now.
Friends, let’s go over to Sonya to learn today’s new keywords.
You could ride a donkey.
People don’t take good care of their animals.
慣用語 take care of 就是照顧。
Some beautiful views and of course the monastery itself.
You can sit and admire the building.
Welcome to the program, Tara.
Thanks, Greg.
I’m planning a trip to Petra.
That’s an amazing place. I’ve always wanted to visit it.
I’m excited to see it, but I want to go to places that many people don’t go, like where?
I want to hike to Al-Deir, the monastery.
You have to climb over 800 steps to get there.
That’s quite a hike, probably.
You could ride a donkey, but it’s not recommended.
Why not? People don’t take good care of their animals.
Oh, yay!
I always love it when Tara goes on Greg’s program, right?
Because Tara travels the world, and she tells us about the places she visits.
That’s right, so where is she traveling this time?
Well, she’s planning a trip. She hasn’t gone there yet, but she wants to go to Petra in Jordan.
Right, Petra is the ancient city that we have been talking about, and Greg tells us that it’s an amazing place.
He’s always wanted to visit it, meaning that he has never been there, but he has always wanted to go there.
Yeah, that’s a great sentence. “I’ve always wanted to do something,” means you haven’t done it yet, but for a long time, you have wanted to.
Well, Tara is excited about this trip. She wants to go places that many people don’t go, and it sounds like she has done some research.
She knows where she wants to go.
So Greg is curious. He wants to know, like where?
Well, Tara tells him she wants to hike to Al-Deir, the monastery.
This is one part of Petra.
She says you have to climb over 800 steps to get there.
Now, friends, we would love to show you what Al-Deir Monastery looks like. Here’s a picture of it.
You can see how beautiful it is and how the people carved it out of the rock.
It sure is amazing and magnificent!
But look at all those stairs!
Greg tells us that that’s quite a hike.
Yeah, that’s quite a hike!
And that is quite a great calendar phrase:

“That’s quite a hike!”
That’s quite a hike!
Whoo, I walked to the top of the mountain.
That’s quite a hike.
I climbed 800 steps.
That’s quite a hike.
And I walked back down.
That’s quite a hike.
And I’m going to sleep all afternoon.
That’s quite a nap.
Yeah, starting now.
That’s quite a hike.

So yes, to get to the monastery, you need to hike quite a ways. It’s a long walk.
That’s not actually the only way to get there, though, right?
Tara also tells us that you can ride a donkey.
Let’s talk about this word ride.
If you are sitting on something or in something to get somewhere else, then you can say you are riding something.
You might ride a bike to work.
Yeah, you could ride a motorcycle or ride a horse.
But we would not say you ride a car.
You drive a car. Ride is usually for things you sit on with your legs hanging off on the outside.
Right, so Tara tells us that you could ride a donkey.
A donkey is a small animal.
It looks a little bit like a horse. You can ride donkeys, or sometimes they help you carry things.
But Tara says it’s not recommended, or people don’t think it’s a good idea.
Friends, let’s go to Sonya now.
Tara
You could ride a donkey, but it’s not recommended.
Did you forget your keys?
Those monkeys are really funny.
Several of the babies are crying.
He visited three big cities on his trip.
Thank you, Sonya.
So, if people could ride donkeys, why don’t they? Well, Tara tells us that people don’t take good care of their animals. Now, if you take care of something, you give it the food, air, and things that it needs. So, people are not treating these animals well. Yeah, so they might be a little bit weak and have a hard time carrying you there, or you riding on it will just make life harder for that donkey. Go ahead and hike up to the monastery, friends. It’s time for our break. We’ll be right back, so don’t go away.
Let’s talk in English.
Welcome back, everyone. Where are you going on your next vacation? Would you like to travel somewhere where you can also go hiking? Oh, that is always fun! Sometimes it can be tiring to hike for a long time, but the reward is always at the end. You’ll get a wonderful view or get to see the great sights, right? And it’s nice to be out in nature, usually. Hiking doesn’t cost any money, so it’s something that you can do for free. Let’s get back to our conversation now.
What do you see when you get to the monastery? Some beautiful views and, of course, the monastery itself. What is it exactly?
It was built as a tomb in the 3rd century and then was an ancient church. It’s carved into the rock. Very cool. And there is a tea shop across from it, where you can sit and admire the building. It’s very pretty in the afternoon light. You’ll probably need a drink after climbing all those steps. That’s what I’m thinking.
Okay, so like we were saying earlier, you have to take a long hike up to this monastery of Aldair. But what do you get to see when you’re at the top?
Well, you get to see this monastery and the beautiful views. Now, let’s talk about this word “monastery.” A monastery is a very special place where people who are religious go and think about God and study. This word is used for many different religions, and this place at Petra probably was used for some of those things. Now, when you get to this monastery, you can also see the wonderful views. Views are things that you see. Now, Greg wants to know what this monastery is, and he asks, “What is it exactly?”
I think it’s time for us to answer our “find it” question. What was the monastery at first?
It was a tomb.
A tomb is a place where people who die are buried. So, this monastery used to be a tomb many, many years ago. Yeah, that’s a little different from a monastery.
We learned that this tomb was built in the third century. That means the year would be 200-something. And then after that, it was an ancient church. And what’s very special about it is that it is carved into the rock. Exactly, just like the buildings we have been talking about throughout Petra.
It wasn’t built one brick at a time; it was carved out of the rock with many tools. Tara tells us more about what you can see there. She says that there is a tea shop across from it. This means if the monastery is here, if you travel right across or go to the other side, then you can see this tea shop. Exactly, you can sit there and admire the building. When you admire something, you look at it and enjoy what you’re seeing.
You can even use this word “admire” to tell someone you enjoy something about them. You can say, “I admire your hard work,” or “I admire your courage.”
Well, we hear it’s very pretty in the afternoon light at this monastery. So, there are some great times to visit this place now.
Let’s go back to talk about things that are across from somewhere with Sonya.
Tara
And there’s a tea shop across from it, where you can sit and admire the building.
The school is across from the park.
Her desk is across from mine.
Across from the bus station, you will find a good cafe.
Thank you, Sonya. Oh, I’m sure I would love sitting down with a cup of tea after that hike.
Yes, Greg tells Tara that she will probably need a drink after climbing all those steps—those 800 steps! Wow, I’m sure that will be nice.
Friends, it’s time now for us to review our keywords.
Here is your first keyword:
Ride
You can ride that bike if you want to.
Donkey
Donkeys aren’t very big.
Take care of
Can you take care of my dogs?
View
I like the view from the mountaintop.
Admire
Is she admiring Becky’s new shoes?
Friends, those are today’s keywords. Keep practicing, and now it’s your turn!
Today’s words are ride, donkey, take care of, view, and admire. Now, it’s your turn to use them in a sentence:
First, Larry takes good care of his sister.
Next, do you want to ride my scooter?
Great job!
Next, they are admiring his car.
Last one: You should see the view from here.
Your turn! Great job, friends! See you next time here at your turn.
Welcome to the program, Tara.
Thanks, Greg. I’m planning a trip to Petra.
That’s an amazing place! I’ve always wanted to visit it. I’m excited to see it, but I want to go places that many people don’t go, like where I want to hike to out there.
The monastery—you have to climb over eight hundred steps to get there.
That’s quite a hike!
Probably you could ride a donkey, but it’s not recommended.
Why not?
People don’t take good care of their animals.
What do you see when you get to the monastery? Some beautiful views and, of course, the monastery itself.
What is it exactly?
It was built as a tomb in the 3rd century, and then was an ancient church.
It’s carved into the rock. Very cool.
And there is a tea shop across from it, where you can sit and admire the building.
It’s very pretty in the afternoon light.
You’ll probably need a drink after climbing all those steps.
That’s what I’m thinking.
Are you still reading that travel blog?
Yes. Petra is an amazing place! I’d like to go there.
And do what?
I’d visit places other people don’t. For example, I’d climb eight hundred steps and visit the monastery.
800 steps! Whoa, no wonder people don’t visit.
Well, you can ride a donkey, but people don’t recommend it. I’m sure the donkeys don’t recommend it!
Well, the monastery was built as a tomb. Ew. After that, it was a church.
It’s carved into the rock. Hmm, interesting.
There’s a tea shop at the top.
I’d like to go there and admire the building in the afternoon light and get a drink. Because after 800 steps, you’re going to need it.
Hello and greetings!
I’m the game master, and you’re here for What’s the Answer?
There are some ancient and beautiful buildings that you can still go and see today. In our game, we’ll talk about some that you can find in one part of the Middle East.
Will Mandy and Lila know the answers? Let’s see!
First, please fill in the blank in this sentence:
The ancient city of Petra is in the country of—
Oh, Lila!
I’ve seen pictures of that place. It’s amazing!
It’s in Jordan.
It is in Jordan.
Many people visit every year.
Now, let’s try another.
How was Petra made?
a) With power tools
b) People carved it out of the rock
c) Camels ran into the rocks
d) Sandstorms carved it
Mandy, how was it made?
It’s in the desert, right?
I think it was made by sand. The answer is d) Sandstorms carved it.
I guess... but that’s not the right answer. Lila, do you have an answer?
I do. It’s b) People carved it out of the rock. That’s right!
Here’s one more:
Is this true or false?
Some people ride donkeys to the Aldair monastery.
Mandy?
I believe that’s true. It seems like a good way to get around.
That’s correct, Mandy. Good job!
But the winner today is Lila!
Well, that’s all for today.
We’ll see you next time on What’s the Answer? See you later!
One of the great keywords or keyword phrases from our lesson today is to take care of something.
When you take care of something, you get everything ready for it that it needs.
Let’s talk about a pet. You need to give it food, a place to sleep, and sometimes medicine if your pet is sick. You will take it to see a pet doctor called a vet.
You take care of your pet, right?
And that’s taking good care of it. If you don’t do those things, you are taking bad care of your pet.
Well, friends, this is a good phrase to know. And be sure to take good care of yourself as well—eat well and sleep well.
Well, see you again tomorrow for another great lesson right here on Let’s Talk in English. Goodbye!
