Beautiful Slovenia 美麗的斯洛維尼亞(上)
空中英語教室 20240905
today is a great day to learn something new it sure
is so let’s do that together
today is also a good day to start with a question and here
it is what do you know about Slovenia
well what do i know about Slovenia
not much until i studied it i know that Slovenia is right
across a little sea from the famous country of Italy
but Slovenia is in a place
we call eastern Europe
and there are a lot of countries
there with a lot of beautiful history and rich architecture rich
just means it has a lot of different things happening together
but i’m excited to talk about it and learn about it with you
today
and that is what we are learning about today friends
our article is called beautiful Slovenia if you’re like me
and you don’t know anything about Slovenia
don’t worry we’re going to learn about it together today
let’s get right into our first reading
beautiful
don’t miss out on the natural wonders of Slovenia
when visiting Europe
Jolene
and i had anticipated our Slovenia adventure for a long time
and it didn’t disappoint journeying through picturesque towns
forests
and green pastures with stunning mountains in the background
we arrived in northwest
Slovenia by train from Austria
our first stop was bled a beautiful small town in the Julian
Alps after settling into our bed and breakfast
b amp b we walked around lake
bled our lovely surroundings included views of
the iconic bled island
with its spectacular baroque church of the assumption
hello everyone
welcome to language lab
i’m Jack
首先来看anticipate这个动词
意思呢是预期或是预料
譬如a large crowd is anticipated at the concert tonight
so we should get there early to find good seats
今晚音乐会预计会有很多人
我们应该早点去
以便找到好座位
anticipate也有预先准备的意思
例如the team is working hard to anticipate
any problems that might come up
during the introduction of the new product
团队正努力为新产品推出期间
可能出现的任何问题做准备
或是Mary had not anticipated the joy
she would feel when she saw her family after so many years
Mary没有预期到多年后见到家人时
他会感到多高兴
再来看surroundings这个名词
意思是周围环境
例如Shawn took a moment to look at his new surroundings
noting the bright colors and sense of the foreign market
Shan看了一下新环境
他注意到外国市场的鲜艳色彩与香味
或是the artist drew inspiration from her surroundings
and used elements of the city’s buildings
in her latest painting
这位艺术家从周围环境中汲取灵感
并在他最新的画作中
使用了城市建筑的元素
或者是the hikers relied on their leader to guide them
through the unfamiliar surroundings of the forest
这些践行者依赖着他们的领队
引导他们穿越陌生的森林环境
thank you so much
Jack friends let’s get right into our lesson
we don’t miss out on the natural wonders of Slovenia
when visiting Europe yes
Slovenia is in Europe
eastern Europe to be specific as Jon mentioned earlier
and we have a great phrase
that we can look at right away here
to miss out on something yeah
this is different from the word miss by itself if you say oh
i miss you
it means you’re not around i feel bad when you’re not here
it’s more of the feeling
but
to miss out on something means to fail to experience something
so you could say all my friends were playing soccer
but i missed out on it
because i was sick here’s another example
if we’re late getting to the park
we’ll miss out on the fireworks
we won’t see them because we were late reading on here jolene
and i had anticipated our Slovenia adventure for a long time
and it didn’t disappoint there’s another great phrase
we can take a look at it didn’t disappoint
yes to fail to meet your expectations is what disappoint means
you could say
i was so disappointed when i got to the park and it was raining
but this is the opposite right if something didn’t disappoint
it means it did meet your expectations here’s an example
i had heard great things about that restaurant
and it didn’t disappoint if i say this
it means the restaurant was everything i expected and i
was satisfied with the food there well
how does our lesson continue John
it says journeying through picturesque towns
forests
and green pastures with stunning mountains in the background
we arrived in northwest
Slovenia by train from Austria
so we’re talking about a journey to Slovenia
we have some really helpful describing adjectives
or descriptive adjectives here
we have picturesque first of all you know
the word picture already right
yeah and that’s exactly how i think of this word when i see
it picturesque might seem like a big word
but really what it means is
it was beautiful just like a picture
so these towns look like something out of a picture that’s right
we also have the word stunning there right Emory yeah
now normally if you say i was stunned
it means that i couldn’t move for a second
i was so surprised if something is stunning normally
it means it’s so beautiful that wow
you can’t move for just a little bit when you look at it wow
that was a stunning sunset
that’s right we read on here
our first stop was bled a beautiful small town
in the Julian Alps
after settling into our bed and breakfast we walked around lake
bled what we see here that
A bed and breakfast is a B and B that’s what it stands for.
but we also see something else in this sentence
that phrase settling into it
just means to get used to something right
or to get comfortable
so you can say to your friend
how are you settling into your new school
are you getting comfortable
yeah after moving apartments or homes
it takes a few weeks to settle into your new environment
to get used to it well
we continue on our lovely surroundings
included views of the iconic blood island
with its spectacular broke church of the assumption
we have a lot of adjectives in this one
adjective is the word iconic
and the other one is the word spectacular
but what’s the difference between these two words
okay iconic comes from the word icon
which means like a statue usually
if something is iconic
it means everybody knows about it it’s very popular
but spectacular comes from the word spectacle
which means to look at you could even call glasses
spectacles actually
so spectacular means beautiful to look at
and iconic means famous all right friends
we have more to learn in just a moment
but first let’s go to our next reading
beautiful Slovenia
from bled we visited the breathtaking tree
Gloff national park home to 2864 meter
high mount tree Gloff Slovenia’s highest mountain
which is the symbol of Slovenia and featured on its flag
we not only hiked to a waterfall
and viewed magnificent lakes and rivers
but also learned about the area’s history
接下来看形容词
magnificent意思是壮丽的
华丽的比如
the magnificent view from the mountain of the sunset over the
valley left us speechless从山上眺望
山谷日落的壮观景色令我们目瞪口呆
或是Jane wore a magnificent dress that sparkled
and caught everyone’s attention
as she walked into the room
Jane穿着一件闪闪发亮的华丽礼服
一走进房间时吸引了所有人的目光
如果是magnificently
就是副词
意思是极好的
譬如the orchestra performed magnificently
and left the audience wanting to hear more
这个管弦乐团的精彩演奏
让观众意犹未尽
all right what else can you do in Slovenia
well we read here from bled we visited the breathtaking tree
glove national park let’s stop there for just a moment
because i want to talk about this word breathtaking
it’s another one of those great descriptive adjectives
and it means that it is thrillingly beautiful or exciting
we often use this to talk about scenery or landscapes
it’s a lot like that word stunning too
that we just learned stunning means
you’re paused for a second
you’re stopped breathtaking
can literally mean your breath is taken away
you can’t breathe
you can use it in a sentence
you could say the mountain was so breathtaking
i had to look at it for an hour
and even though it does take your breath away
this adjective is always positive
we don’t say that something negative is breathtaking
this is a good thing okay
what we read on that this tree
glove national park is home to 2864 meter high mount tree
glove Slovenia’s highest mountain now
this mountain is the symbol of Slovenia
and it’s featured on Slovenia’s flag
we saw that word iconic earlier in our lesson and here
we see the phrase to be a symbol of something
those words are kind of similar
aren’t they that’s right
the word symbol means something represents other things
you could say
the lion is a symbol of courage
or something like that iconic means famous
but a symbol means it’s representing
kind of the heart of a country
or something else yeah like the symbol of the United States
we would say
is the bald eagle when we Americans see a bald eagle
we often think of our country
because it’s a symbol of what we kind of stand for i guess
you could say
that’s right what’s the symbol of your country
or maybe even your school has a symbol well
we’re going through this national park here
i love national parks by the way do you
i do i really love national parks
because there’s usually a lot of hiking in nature
and because those areas are usually protected
you might get to see things there
that you don’t see anywhere else
that’s right so here
they not only hiked a waterfall
and viewed magnificent lakes and rivers
but also they learned about the area’s history that’s nice
you can combine learning history with seeing natural wonders
we have a sentence pattern here
don’t we not only
but also that’s
right let’s review what this means friends
it usually
means that a situation or a place has one thing and also another
or that what
it has is not limited to that first thing sometimes
we use the sentence pattern
with the word and or
with the word and that is understood
that is that we don’t actually write the word and there
but we know that’s what we’re talking about here is an example
not only is he planning on going to Japan this summer
he also wants to travel to Thailand so the end
there is understood and he also wants to go to Thailand
that’s right you could add that
but also if it’s kind of an extra surprise right
you could say oh
it’s your birthday not only did i get you a cake
but also i got you this present so
it’s a fun way to build in your English speaking well
i can’t wait to see what our friends also do on their trip here
i think it’s time for our infocloud though
hey folks welcome to infocloud hey
Rex have you ever wondered what folk means yeah to be honest
i’ve heard of folk tales
but i’m not exactly sure what folk refers to
well folk
typically refers to the common
or ordinary people from a community or culture
ah so that’s why people say things like hey
folks exactly
but folk can also refer to the traditions stories
music and customs pass
down through generations by ordinary people
okay
so that’s where folktales and folk music come from precisely
folktales are stories that people have told each other
for generations
they usually have a moral that
reflects the values and beliefs of a culture
and folk music
how is it different from normal music
folk music is music
that’s been sung and played by regular people
rather than trained musicians
it often reflects people’s experiences
struggles and joys hey
speaking of Folk
you know the car company Volkswagen
i’ve heard that Volkswagen
literally means people’s car in German
really that’s fascinating it fits
perfectly with the idea of folk being about the common people

Hey, folks!
有时候我们会听到外国人说hey folks来跟一群人打招呼
今天就来分享folk这个字的含义
folk就是指一般民间的人或是老百姓
Folk music就是人们传唱的民谣
而Folktale就是民间故事
大家都很熟悉的德国车Volkswagen字面上翻译过来就是people’s car人民的汽车
基本上Folk这个字听起来就非常的平易近人
如果你想要跟你一群人打招呼但是又不确定怎么说比较得体
你就可以用hey folks来问候他们
这是最安全的用法
这就是今天的INFO cloud
咱们下次云端见
beautiful Slovenia
near bled is radolitza
which boasts an Old Town
with preserved ancient buildings and homes
from the 15th and 16th centuries
while there we visited the apeculture museum
dedicated to slovenia’s beekeeping heritage
we learned about their beekeeping tradition
and saw exhibits of traditional hives tools
and lovely painted beehive
panels outstanding works of Slovenian folk art
最后来看panel这个名词
意思是铅板壁板
譬如the artist’s new exhibition
included paintings on different panels that told a story
这位艺术家的新展览
包括在不同板子上讲述故事的绘画
或者是three of the four panels on the door were damaged
during the storm
and had to be replaced
门上四块板子中
有三块在暴风雨中损坏
必须被更换
panel也指专家小组
譬如the panel of experts
discussed the future of renewable energy
专家小组讨论了再生能源的未来
thank you so much Jack well
we are learning about another place in Slovenia Ruddiligia
nearbled is ruddiligia
which boasts an Old Town let’s stop right there
because we have to talk about this word boasts
when a person boasts
it means that they are bragging
or they are prideful about something and this word here
when it talks about a place boast something
it has a similar meaning
but it is a little bit different because of course
places can’t brag or be prideful about something
right what this means
in this context is that this place has it
it has an Old Town that’s right
and usually if a town does boast something
it means they are a little bit proud of it
because it’s famous so here
they boast their famous Old Town
which is probably the historical
part of the city
but also we learn about it
it has preserved ancient buildings and homes
from the 15th and 16th centuries okay
if something is preserved
it means it’s kept in good condition even though it’s old
do you know what the word preserved
always makes me think of does it make you think of a food
two different things the first
one is preserves
which is a kind of like a type of jam
that is kept in a jar that you can keep for a long time
it’s so good but it also makes me think of mummies oh
mummies
that’s right mummies are preserved bodies right
yeah that’s right
so a lot of historical things are preserved
and if you have a city that needs to be preserved or a mummy
you want to keep it in good condition
you can also preserve things like your clothes
preserve the paint on your walls
things like that well
we learn also about the 15th and 16th centuries
again if it’s the 15th century
it means it’s the 1400s right
that’s right and the 16th century
means the 1500s that’s right now here in this next sentence
there is a new word that i was not familiar with apoculture
but then i found out apoculture is just beekeeping
while there we visited the apoculture museum
dedicated to slovenia’s beekeeping heritage
i personally am not too familiar with beekeeping
but we have a beekeeper right here in the
studio with us John
you’ve done beekeeping before i actually have
and it’s amazing
i would recommend if you get the chance
go and work with a beekeeper
because you learn a lot about bees now here we learned
we read here
we learned about their beekeeping tradition and saw exhibits
which means a showplace of traditional hives tools
and lovely painted beehive panels
which are outstanding works of Slovenian folk art
i just want to talk about that phrase there
folk art i learned that folk art is different from fine art
folk art are things that can be used like beekeeping panels
or bowls things like that
or as opposed to paintings
which are fine art that’s right
these type of things
reflect the cultural life of a very specific community
all right friends we’ll be right back after today’s fun fact
hello
friends
i am detective Ernest finder and i have a fun fact for you today
ah did you know that
honey bees have been part of European culture for a long time ha
that’s right those
little honey bees have been
helping people make honey for a long time
and European honey bees are known for being gentle pretty cool
friends it’s time for a quiz
please fill in the blank
which adjective was used to describe treeglove national park
ancient baroque traditional or breathtaking
John do you know the answer
well it is ancient
but i think the word breathtaking is the one
we’re looking for that is the right answer friends
i hope you got that answer right as well well
that is all the time we have for today
but we’re not done talking about Slovenia
so make sure you come back and join us will be here tomorrow
waiting for you right here on studio classroom

hello friends and welcome to studio classroom
we are so glad you’ve joined us for our lesson today
my name is Ann Marie
and my name is John friends
today is a great day to learn something new it sure
is so let’s do that together
we are learning all about Slovenia
we started our lesson yesterday
it is called beautiful Slovenia
what is something we learned in yesterday’s lesson
we learned this phrase
that it didn’t disappoint to
disappoint means to let down someone’s expectations
what if a trip didn’t disappoint
that means it was as good as or better than you
thought it was going to be that’s right and this trip
that someone tooks to Slovenia
didn’t disappoint
they stayed in a bnb that is a bed and breakfast
and they traveled to the iconic bled island they saw
a lot of things
including the beautiful tree glove national park
but they also learned about folk art
we learned at the end of yesterday’s lesson
that folk art is art made on things that are useful
like bowls or wheels
or things or beehives like we learned in our lesson yesterday
but we are not done learning about Slovenia friends
so let’s get right into today’s lesson
beautiful Slovenia
next we traveled to liubliana slovenia’s capital
where we stayed in an Airbnb in the city center
just outside our door was the funicular to liubliana castle
sitting on the hill high above downtown
liubliana from the castle
we viewed the surrounding countryside in all directions
also outside our door was a daily market
full of fresh local produce
flowers and plants we thoroughly enjoyed the raspberries
strawberries blueberries
and other fruit
hello everyone
welcome to language lab
i’m Jack
我们先来看thoroughly这个副词
意思是彻底的或非常
譬如Ben thoroughly cleaned his apartment
before his parents arrived for a visit
Ben在父母来访之前
彻底打扫了他的公寓
或是before making a decision
Cara thoroughly researched all the options to make sure
she was making the best choice
Cara在做出决定前
彻底研究了所有选项
以确保他做出最好的选择
或是the book was thoroughly enjoyable
capturing the student’s attention as the teacher read it
这本书非常有趣
老师在读的时候
吸引了学生们的注意力
thank you so much Jack okay
we are still traveling around Slovenia
where are we going going now
how does our lesson begin today John well
we learned that next we traveled to liubliana slovenia’s capital
now friends
if you’re scared of that name liubliana
don’t worry it’s not an English word
so don’t feel like you have to get that just perfectly
maybe if you’re traveling to Slovenia
though this will help you but in liubliana
they stayed in an Airbnb in the city center
we learned about BNB right
we did a bed in breakfast yeah
a place where you can sleep and eat in the same spot what’s
an Airbnb well
Airbnb is actually
a particular app
where you can book bed and breakfast or other places to stay
we learned about airbnbs in a previous lesson
if you remember friends
i love the Airbnb app
i do book a lot of places that i stay on my trips through
that app you can find some really unique places
and some really great deals on there
but we read on here
just outside our door was the funicular to liubliana castle OK
funicular is a very interesting word here what is it well
it’s a railway operated by cables
that are ascending and descending
so this is just a specific type of railway i think
sometimes we call that a cable car
but where does it go well
it goes up the mountain to liubliana castle
which is sitting on a high hill above downtown
Liu Bliana
what a beautiful way to get up to a tourist destination
we also learned from the castle
we viewed the surrounding countryside in all directions
i love that word surrounding yeah
it’s a great way to say that
something is all around something else
we also
sometimes say something is surrounded with something else
as well here’s an example
the grass surrounding the lake was lush
and thick now
surrounding is the adjective if you want to use it as a noun
you can too right you can say hey
what are your surroundings like in that city
and if you’re
talking to someone surroundings means the local area
so it’s pretty useful
okay also outside
our door was a daily market full of fresh local produce no
that word is not pronounced produce because here
it is a noun produce what is produce John
produce
is the fruits and vegetables that are from the surroundings
or the surrounding area
so the nearby country
a local produce is a great thing to buy if you can
but like you
said produce is the noun with pro getting the accent
and produce means to make something like crops now
in different areas of the world
there are different types of produce right
this can be any kind of fruits and vegetables that are grown
there we read on here
we thoroughly enjoyed the raspberries strawberries
blueberries and other fruit i really love berries
they are one of my favorite fruits
but right now friends
it is time for us to go to our next reading
beautiful Slovenia
from Liu Bliana
we took a day trip to Projama Castle
and Postoyna Cave in the carst
region of southwestern
Slovenia carst is a landscape
shaped by the erosion of limestone
producing cracks
sinkholes and underground caverns
接下来看erosion这个名词
意思是轻食辅食
例如
erosion in the farming regions was made worse by heavy rains
which washed away a lot of good soil
暴雨冲走大量肥沃的土壤
加剧了农耕地区的水土流失
erosion也有逐渐削弱的意
思譬如
the erosion of people’s trust in the institution was gradual
but became obvious after money went missing
人们对这个机构的信任逐渐削弱
在资金消失后
这种情况更加明显
erosion的动词是erode
譬如her boss’s constant criticism began to erode
Karen’s confidence
and made it difficult for her to give her opinion
during meetings
老板不断地批评
开始逐渐破坏carry的信心
使他很难在会议上发表自己的意见
接着来看名词Cavern
意思是洞穴
例如deep in the forest
the man discovered an old Cavern
its walls bright with minerals在森林深处
人们发现了一个古老的洞穴
墙上有闪亮的矿物质
或是legends spoke of a hidden treasure
deep within the Cavern
which was guarded by a Dragon传说中
洞穴的深处藏有宝藏
有一条龙守护者
或是the sound of water dripping
echoed throughout the cavern
hinting at a lake or stream nearby
水滴的声音在整个洞穴中发出回响
暗示附近有湖泊或溪流
there are still more places to visit in Slovenia from Liugliana
we took a day trip to Projama Castle
and Poisnoia cave in the cars region of southwestern Slovenia
once again a lot of difficult names
their friends don’t worry too much about pronouncing them
they are not English names
but we look here at the phrase a day trip
i love taking day trips now
that i have kids for me they’re a lot less stressful than
going somewhere and staying overnight when you take a day trip
you usually leave in the morning
and you’re back in your own home at the end of the day
that’s right
day trips are fun
i have little kids too
and day trips are the way to go we learned about castles here
though and caves super fun things to see we also
have this here the karst region
it turns out karst is a unique kind of geography right
it sure is so
Karst is an area of land made up of limestone now
you do see the word limestone in your lesson
as well friends
we’re going to talk about that in a minute
but there is an entire region here in Slovenia
that is the Karst region Karst is a landscape
shaped by the erosion of limestone
what is limestone John well
limestone is a kind of sedimentary or layered rock
composed of something called calcium carbonate anyway
it’s kind of a soft rock that gets eroded or washed away
pretty easily and what is produced
well we read here cursed is a landscape
shaped by the erosion of limestone
producing cracks
sinkholes and underground caverns cool
yeah well not so cool if you’re on a sinkhole
that’s for sure you might
have seen some of those before in the middle of the road
have you seen that before friends
where the middle of the road just seems like the big circle
shaped hole and it
just sinks down into the ground
this can happen for a lot of different reasons
erosion is one of those reasons
but a sinkhole is a little bit different than a crack
in the ground right
that’s right
a crack is kind of like a long line where something breaks
but a sinkhole like you say
is where the ground drops because there’s space underneath
it from erosion or something like that
and then there’s also the word cavern
that you learned about cavern and cave are very similar
so would you want to go
explore this kind of place
no because i am extremely claustrophobic
i don’t like small tight spaces
so exploring caves and caverns is not for me
but there is something for all of us right now
in today’s infocloud
let’s go there right now
hello everyone welcome to info cloud Garrett
have you ever been to the old building downtown
that was renovated into a cafe
no i don’t think i have what’s the story
well it was a diamond in the rough
the building was run down and abandoned for years
but a local entrepreneur saw
his potential and decided to turn it into a charming cafe
hmm diamond in the rough
that’s a good phrase let’s talk about what it means
it is a great expression
a diamond in the rough
is something or someone that has great potential or talent
but is not yet polished or refined it’s like finding a valuable
diamond that just needs a bit of cleaning and polishing to shine
for it might be a talented
but undiscovered artist they have great potential
but aren’t really appreciated yet
or think of a neglected piece of land
full of weeds
that is transformed into a beautiful garden
those are examples of diamonds in the rough
so the phrase is really about seeing beyond the surface
and recognizing the hidden value
or potential in something or someone
it’s kind of like the phrase don’t judge a book by its cover
exactly both sayings
remind us that you can’t always see something’s true value

A diamond in the rough
当你发现一个人或一样东西隐藏着巨大的价值
你可以用今天分享的用语A diamond in the rough来称呼它
A diamond in the rough就是还没有加工过的钻石
一般人看到可能不知道它的真正价值
但是一旦加工过变得光彩夺目大家才知道它的宝贵
A diamond in the rough就是看起来不起眼 但是非常有潜力的人或是物品
Trust me! That singer is a diamond and a rough.
相信我那位歌手拥有巨大的潜力以后很有可能会成功
这就是今天的INFO cloud
我们下次云端见
beautiful Slovenia
the following day we visited piran on the adriatic sea
one of Slovenia’s oldest cities
with stops to see the lipitzen horses
near Lipitza we also stopped at a unesco world heritage site
the scoian caves a several million year old cave system that
is slovenia’s most significant underground
phenomenon being in the huge cool
cave for a few hours was pleasant
as it was a warm sunny day
though small in size and population
Slovenia is a treasure with stunning natural
wonders and friendly people
最后来看phenomenon这个名词
意思是现象
例如the sudden disappearance of bees
worldwide is a troubling phenomenon
that scientists are trying to understand
蜜蜂在全球突然的消失
是个令人担忧的现象
科学家正在试图了解中
或者是
social media has given rise to the phenomenon of videos
that can reach millions of viewers in a short time
社区媒体
带来了影片
在短时间内
就能触及数百万观众的现象
phenomenon的复数是把字尾的o n改成a
念成phenomena
例如the study of space
phenomena has fascinated people for centuries
几个世纪以来
人们对太空现象的研究一直很着迷
well friends
it’s time to finish out our lesson about Slovenia here
we read the following day
we visited purran on the adriatic sea
one of slovenia’s oldest cities
with stops to see the lipizen horses near lapiza okay
we see that word stops there already and in the next sentence
we also see stopped at why do we use these words in this way
John
okay
stop that is the verb right to stop moving or not move anymore
but a stop is something where you’re taking a break in a trip
you’ll see this
a lot with the bus stops right
the bus has many bus stops where people can get on and off
but a stop on a trip is normally when you go to see something
or maybe eat food
i love stops on long road trips
they’re kind of my favorite part of the trip
here’s another example of
how you could use stopped at in a sentence
there’s a bakery
we can stop at on the way to work to get some breakfast
that’s right
so where did our friends stop at
well it’s kind of interesting
they stopped at a unesco world heritage site
the scojan Caves again that’s a hard word scojan caves
and these are ancient
it’s an ancient
several million year old cave system
that is slovenia’s most significant underground phenomenon okay
if something is significant
what does that mean well
if something is significant
it means that it is worthy of attention or it is noteworthy
so these are significant caves they are worthy of attention
people should pay attention to them
we also see the word significant in other situations as well
for example there could be significant changes to an assignment
that means there were big changes
or noteworthy changes on that assignment
you’ll see that the word sign is right there
in the word significant right
a sign is showing you something pay attention
and the word assignment too
you need to pay attention to that
like a sign all right we
keep reading here
they get in the cool caves
being in the huge cool cave for a few hours was pleasant
as it was a warm sunny day now
Emory you said you do not want to go in caves
absolutely not
it would not be pleasant for you
but what if the cave was nice and cool
i guess it depends on how hot it was outside now
cool is different than something being actually
cold isn’t it something cool
means it is very comfortable
and you don’t actually feel like you need a jacket
or something to keep you warm there
it’s just more of a refreshing feeling
and that’s actually where we get the common word cool
like if you tell your friend wow
cool shirt
it means it’s neat but if you if you say someone is cool
it means they’re not too crazy they’re they’re a cool person
they’re they’re just the right amount of kind of reserved
and that’s where we get that phrase cool
that’s right okay
so they went into this cave for a few hours
it was pleasant because it was warm outside
and we moved down to the next sentence here
though small in size and population
Slovenia is a treasure if something is a treasure
what does that mean
it means it’s special and it’s worth keeping
so you can use this word for places for things
even for people in kind of a fun way
you could say
wow my mom is such a treasure
she is the best baker that i know she’s such a treasure
your mom is a treasure
John she is a treasure yeah that’s right
what we read on here
stunning natural wonders and friendly people
these are all things that the country of Slovenia has
i don’t have any plans to visit Slovenia any time soon
but if i did
i would definitely want to visit some of these places
we learned about in our article
friends
that’s definitely something you can talk about in English
which of these places sounds like
it would be the most interesting to visit
i think it makes a good point here at the end
stunning natural wonders are a great reason to visit a place
but having friendly people is also really important
we might not all get the chance to travel
but tourists will always come through wherever we are right
so be friendly to foreigners
it’s a great way to help people love
and be able to appreciate the beauty of your country
that’s right
all right friends we’ll be right back after today’s fun fact
hello friends
i am detective
Ernest finder and i have a fun fact for you
today did you know the adriatic sea near Slovenia
had a big naval battle
that’s a battle with ships
it was in World War ii and a submarine sank
a battleship for the first time ever in this battle
that’s pretty cool unless
you’re a battleship and that’s today’s fun fact
all right we’ve been learning all about visiting Slovenia
it sounds like a beautiful place
but we have our talk about it question from the magazine
right now and Marie are you ready
i’m ready
okay here’s the question
which part of Slovenia would you like to visit most and why
i think
i would really really enjoy visiting the apriculture museum
that museum that is dedicated to beekeeping really
are you afraid of bees
i’m not afraid of bees
i actually really love bees
i know that they’re really really important
for a lot of ecosystems around the world
and this beekeeping museum sounded so interesting to me
because it mentions slovenia’s beekeeping heritage
so we see that word heritage
it means that people have been doing this for a long time yeah
they’ve even incorporated painted beehives into their folk art
yeah
and we learned in yesterday’s fun fact
that the bees from this area are really gentle well friends
i hope you join us for more fun next time
this has been a fun travel with you
it sure has
and we will see you next time right here on studio classroom
