某老外在八大《WTO姐妹會》上表示，在台灣常聽到Cost down的說法，老闆開會時說，部門每天一定要Cost down，讓外國人聽了都會傻笑。講Cost down（節省成本）的人英文不是很好！
該老外說，每天都聽到同事說Cost down，好討厭；他打個比方，如果有天你去餐廳工作，所有的客人都說要一碗「飯白」，這時候一定會抓狂，明明是白飯！
《網路溫度計》2014年曾公布「常見台式菜英文」調查，發現台灣人最常誤用的詞是Cost down；據說最早源於日本人後來傳到台灣來，正確的說法應是Cost reduction或Lowering the cost。

(O) We downsize the company to lower the cost. 我們縮減公司的規模以降低成本。 “cost down” 是台灣人最容易用錯的說法！不管是開會、訂購流程中都常常會講到「降低成本」。然而，“cost down” 卻是台灣人自己發明的錯誤用法。要講「降低成本」可以說 lower the cost，或是 keep the cost down、reduce the cost。以後可別再以為 cost down 是一個正確又道地的說法唷，外國客戶可是會聽不懂呢！
