SydneyAustralia

(Abigail’s voice)

My name is Kim Xing Zi, in Sydney I am known as Abigail Kim. I have lived here for 10 years. After graduating from University, I managed to persuade my parents to let me stay in Sydney with the reason "I want to be independent"

To be honest, the real reason is to stay away from my family because I can’t handle the dictatorial family tradition.

[Thinking about what happened in the past]

Abigail: Why do you always have to force me to be with people that I don’t like!!  I don’t want to stay here anymore (Very angry at the father, walk away and slam the door)

This year my life has not been interesting, the person that I thought I will spend the rest of my life with suddenly left me. Everything that I do has become so meaningless. The only thing that keeps me functioning is work.

To me… the busier the better, because I can stay back at work and don’t have to worry that at home I will have nothing to do and start thinking about my ex again. Eventhough we have broken up for a year, I am still struggling.

Luckily I have supports from Chris, my best friend. Every day, she keeps telling me to let go of the past, think positive and believe that the next one will be better.

Inside the office

There are only two people still working, Abigail and her manager. Others have left after finishing their tasks. Abigail offered to stay back to help the manager.

Abigail’s desk

Abigail: (Talking to herself) [ English: Finally, I have managed to complete everything, not sure how's the manager is doing} (Walk over to the manager’s desk) Hi…I have finished checking all accounts, can I help you with anything?

Manager: (Look at the files on her desk) Looks like we have pretty much finished everything. Thank you for staying back. You can go home first….I will go home once I finish this.

Abigail: Are you sure you don’t need me to help you finish that? (Looking at the pile of files next to the Manager)

Manager: That’s ok … you have done enough for today. I’ll see you on Monday. Make sure you have a great weekend. Ok?

Abigail: Alright then, you have a nice weekend too. See ya on Monday… don’t stay up too late. (Walk back to her desk to p ack up her stuff and feels her stomach rumbling) 好餓哦 (Wondering about the time and look at the clock hanging on the wall ) HA!!!!! Hmm… (Pick up her bag and walk out from the office)  [English:  I'm starving... (wondering about the time and look at the clock hanging on the wall) Ha!!! It's already 8.30?... no wonder I am starving... Hmm... What should I eat for dinner? Really don't feel like going to Chinatown .. (Thinking) Instant noodle ...(Sigh) but I think they have run out too...(Sigh) Still have to buy them.. ahhhh]

It is a very exhausting day for Abigail; she started work at 7.30 am and hasn’t been sleeping well lately. All the way to the front door she couldn’t stop yawning. When she walks out, she can see many people on the street, perhaps it is summer, day light saving, the sun usually set after 9pm, so people like to stay out especially on Friday nights.

On the way home she decides to buy some instant noodles for dinner. She walks down to the Asian supermarket in the shopping centre. As usual, her shopping habit is to go through aisle by aisle and looks at interesting products. As she walks aisle by aisle, she starts putting things in the trolley and not realizing that she bought so many things until the cashier tells her the amount of money that she has to pay.

Asian Supermarket

Cashier: Thank you 55 dollars 45 cents

Abigail: 55 dollars 45 cents??(Look surprise and thinking) [English: I thought I have just bought instant noodle.. how come it can be so expensive?] ( Look at the shopping bag and smile to the cashier) I think I’ve bought too many things.

She feels bad returning things that she does not want and decides to pay. Now she has to carry the heavy groceries bags all the way back to her apartment.

[English: Xing Zi Ah.. Xing Zi... You have bought too many stuff]

Abigail is struggling in carrying the heavy groceries and also has to walk in high heels. She walks slowly and as she is crossing to the other side of the shopping centre, a guy runs through from the otherside and does not notice Abigail is in the middle of the road. He pushes Abigail; she falls down and drops everything on the ground. The bottle of drink is broken and the groceries are everywhere. The guy does not even stop and apologies.

Abigail: ~!!!!! (Look at the person) (Touching her hand) 痛死我了 [English: Hey~!!! Watch it!!! Can't believe he didn't even apologised! ( Touching her hand) Ouch... Pain]

She feels like crying but it is too embarrassing to cry in front of public. She looks at the groceries bags on the ground and then she notices that one of her heels is broken.

Abigail: Ha~~!!!! (Crawl around and try to collect things around her and put them in the bag) [English: HA~~!!!! My new shoes!!!! How can I have such a bad luck in life!! ( Crawl around and try to collect things around her and put them in the bag) Argh... How embarrassing ... Everyone looking... what are they looking at .. hiks...why there's no one helping me pick up all these stuff!](Talking to her self, get up and walk in one shoe to pick up the can food that rolls far).

As she thought that there is no one helping her, a guy walks pass and picks up   a can of tuna from the ground .

(Walking to Abigail) Does this belong to you?  (Hand over the can of tuna)

Abigail who is putting the groceries in the bag looks up and is stunned by the guy appearance.

[English: Oh My God... How come there is such a handsome person in this world?]

(Smile) Are you ok? (Helping carry the groceries bags from the ground)

Abigail: Yes...Thank you. (Take the groceries bags from him doesn’t dare looking at him).

Abigail feels uncomfortable looking at the handsome guy as she looks very tired and messy. She quickly grabs the groceries bags from his hand, puts on her shoes and walks away. As she is rushing, she forgets that one of the heels is broken which make her loses her balance and falls down.

Abigail: Ahhhh!!! (Nearly falls to the ground)

The guy manages to hold her from falling and they both look at each other. Abigail’s heart suddenly beats so fast and she then realizes that she is too close to him and quickly moves away. Her face turns red as she is shy.

Abigail: Sorry… and Thank you (Say awkwardly and take the bags from the ground, take off her shoes and walk away) AHH…!! (Stop and try to hold her pain) 好痛 [English: Pain]

She is in pain but still trying to carry the groceries home. The guy feels sorry for her when he sees her limping slowly and struggling to carry the bags. He decides to walk to her and takes the bags from her hand.

(Hold Abigail’s hand and smile) I don't think you can walk in this condition.

Abigail: (Surprise that the guy takes the groceries bags from her hands, looking at the guy) Ha~??? It’s ok …I am fine.

I can see that you are in pain. Where is the nearest medical centre?   I’ll take you to the doctor.

Abigail: You don’t have to do this…I am fine… (Refusing to be taken to the medical centre)

You need to get your ankle checked, if not it will get serious and you won’t be able to to walk for a long period. Let me take you there.

Abigail: (Realise what the guy said is right and agreed) The closest medical centre is close to the Townhall station.

Come…(Take the groceries bags from Abigail’s hand) Let me help you to the medical centre.

He offers his left shoulder for Abigail to hold and carries the groceries bags on his right hands. Slowly they walk to the medical centre.

Abigail: (Look at the guy and thinking) [English: He is so nice.. without him, I don't know how I would be able to carries these home]

At the Medical Centre

While Abigail is in the room with the doctor, the guy looks at the broken shoes. He walks away from the medical centre and tries to find a pair of sandals for Abigail. As it is a late night, supermarket is the only shop that is opened. He walks in the supermarket to buy the sandals and runs back to the medical centre.

Inside the doctor’s practice, the doctor asks Abigail to take a rest for at least 2 days because her ankle is swollen. She thanks the doctor and walks out from the practice. She walks to the waiting room and only sees her groceries bags on the sofa.

Abigail: 他人咧? [English: Where is he?] (Disappointed) How can he just leave the stuffs over there and walked away? (Sigh and sit down)

She looks at the bags and her broken shoes and thinking how on earth she can carry all of them back to her place in her broken shoes and swollen ankle.

(Take a deep breath) [English: I knew it... there is no nice person in this world... ( Take a deep breath) Fine... I learnt my lesson.. Should always count myself .. never others... but... how can I carry all of these home?]

She stands up and carries the bags and limps towards the lift in bare foot. The guy comes out from the escalator and runs towards her.

Let me carry that. (Taking the bags away from Abigail)

Abigail: (Surprise to see him)

For you (Give the sandals to Abigail). I don't think you can walk in your high heels any more so I went to get you a pair of sandals. (Looking at the shoes in one of the groceries bags)

Abigail: (Smile) Oh…Thank you… (Take the sandals) Sorry… I thought you left already.

(Smile) How can I leave the person who needs help? What did the doctor say?

Abigail: She said my ankle is swollen and I have to rest for at least 2 days. Luckily it is weekend. I can just stay at home. ( Put on the sandals and put the shoes in the groceries bags ) Thanks again for the sandals; I thought that I have to walk home in barefoot.

That’s ok. Uhmmm…If you don’t mind, can I send you home?

Abigail: (Smile happily as she doesn’t have to carry the heavy groceries but then she realizes that he is a stranger) That’s ok… I can walk home my self; my place is just around the corner.

(Smile) Uhmm… I don't think you can walk in this condition and carry these heavy shopping bags. I have to insist to send you back.

[English:  He really wants to send me home?  Should I let him do that? (Smile and answer) Thank you very much for doing this.

Abigail agrees to let the guy walks her back to her apartment. He carries the groceries bags and walks out with her from the medical centre. On the way to the apartment, Abigail couldn’t stop looking at him. In her head, she keeps thinking…

[English:  Does nice person really exist in this world? What if he is a pshyco? Eh.. Xing Zi ... What's  have  you been thinking? He is kindly enough to help you ... He is very handsome should be a kind hearted person... Yup... He is a kind person... Uhmm... I should ask his name] EHmm… (Clear her throat) Hi…My name is Abigail, what's your name?

You can call me Jun. (Smile)

Abigail: Jun… (Smile) Thank you very much for helping me. I really don't know what will happen if you didn't help me. You are such a nice person.

That’s ok. Helping people is a good thing to do. I can't just walk away when I see that some one is in trouble.

Abigail: He-he-he (Tries to smile ) Yes, same here, I will do the same as well.

Walking all the way to the apartment, Abigail can’t take her eyes away from Jun. He is a very handsome guy who does not really like to talk much. All the way, they have been really quite and she does not know how to continue talking to him. She is thinking how to start a conversation with him so it won’t be an awkward situation, but she can't think of anything and starts talking to her self.

(Look in front) 啊唷 ... [English: Xing Zi... You usually are very talkative... but why infront of a handsome man... you can't even say a word... Hurry up... think of what you can say to him... Ah yo... You see... You have now reached home]

They arrive in front of the apartment building.

Abigail: This is my apartment building. (Take the bags from Jun's hand Thank you so much for sending me back and carry these heavy bags.

No problem, are you ok to bring them up?

Abigail: Yeah, the lift is just there, I will be fine.

Ok, be careful, your ankle is swollen, don’t walk too much especially carrying heavy stuffs like these.

Abigail: Ha-ha-ha… I won’t. Oh yeah, how much is the sandals?

(Smile )Don’t worry.

Abigail: No…I can’t accept this. You are kind enough helping me carrying these... It’s not polite if I don’t pay you the money for the sandals. More over you are a total stranger to me (Thinking) [English: You are an Idiot Xing Zi... How can you say that!!]

(Smile) Don’t worry just treat it as a gift from me.

Abigail: Ha~?? I really can’t accept it…Please let me know how much is it.

Seriously, It doesn’t cost much… you don’t have to pay me.

Abigail: Uhmmm…If that’s the case ( Searching through the bags and take a pack of biscuit and gives to Jun ) Please take this as a thank you gift. I know it is just a pack of biscuit but it is a delicious one. Please accept it as a thank you from me.

(Look at the biscuits and smile) That’s ok. You don’t have to.

Abigail: Please…. If you take it, I will feel much better.

(Smile) If you insist, I will accept it then ( Take the pack of biscuit). Well… I better go now… my friends are waiting for me…Bye (Waive his hand).

Abigail: Bye. Thanks again.

Jun walks away and then he realizes that he does not know the way to meet his friends. He walks back and asks Abigail for the direction.

Excuse me …

Abigail: (About to go inside the building, turn around and smile) Yes?

(Smile) Sorry to bother you… Can you tell the direction to go to Dixon street? I am a visitor, I don't know my way around here.

Abigail: ( Pointing at the direction ) You just go straight up from here, turn right and walk all the way up to China town, after pass the China Town it is just around the corner.

Oh…. Just straight up from here? Ok..... Thanks … Bye-bye  (Smile and Walk away)

Abigail: Bye … Sydney. [English: Ow... so he doesn't live in Sydney]Oh well… !!! [English: I think I won't see him anymore... Aissh!!] (Sigh and limping into the building)

Abigail’s apartment

Abigail’s apartment is a one bed room unit, a very nice and cozy place. After she freshing up, she cooks instant noodle for dinner. Taking the bowl to the living room, she checks her mobile phone on the study table. There were 5 missed calls and all are from the same number.

Abigail: Chris? [English: Chris? Why did she call me?]( Dial her mobile phone. Tut... tut....tut...tut...)

Chris: Hallo…

Abigail: Chris, 找我 有事嗎?[English: Chris, what's up?]

[English: Ho... So I can only call you when I have problem?]  (Smile) Just want to check how you are? I’ve tried to call you and it rang out all the time.

Abigail: Sorry my mobile phone was on silent.

Chris: That’s ok... how’s your day?

Abigail: Well…It’s not a good day for me. I stayed back at work till 8.30 and then on the way back I hurt my ankle.

Chris: Oh my gosh, how did that happen?

Abigail: You know my shopping habits. My plan was just to buy an instant noodle but I ended up with 4 groceries bags. Wearing heels and carries them is difficult enough, when I crossed to the other end, someone ran over and pushed me to the ground.

Chris: Ouch!!

Abigail: Can you imagine how embarrassing I was? [English: What really annoying was]  that person didn’t even stop and apologize.

Chris: Damn! How can this world have such irresponsible person?

(Giggle) [English: But...If I didn't fall, I won'r be able to meet him!!]

Chris: Hallo?? Are you sure you just hurt your ankle? What are you talking about?

Abigail: Well, when I was struggling collecting my groceries, a very hand some guy helped me… but I felt really awkward at that time coz I looked so messy so I quickly grabbed the bags and walked away. I forgot that one of the heels is broken so I fell and sprained my ankle.

Chris: Hahahaha….that must be so funny.

Abigail: Weh!!! [English: I"m injured here... You still laugh so happily]

Chris: No , I just don’t understand why you ran away. You should have stayed and talked to him.

Abigail: Eh… (Miss)….Guys always like to talk to a very pretty gal not a messy gal like me. So my first reaction is to just walk away from him so he can’t see my face.

Chris: Then … what happened?

Abigail: He saw me limping away in pain and offered to send me the doctor.

Chris: Wah… he is such a nice guy.

Abigail: Yeah… he even walked me home.

Chris: Ha!!!!! [English: You let him sent you home?]

Abigail: 是啊 [English: Yup]

[English: You didn't... What if he is a bad person?]

[English: Wah... Can't believe you can be so excited like this]  Eh…you better be careful!! You can never judge people from the look. Don’t be too sure he is a good guy.

Abigail: Nah… He is a good guy. I can feel it… or else he wouldn’t wait for me, bought me sandals and helped me carry all the stuff back. …(Sigh)  [English: But... Aissh]

[English: Why did you sigh?]

Abigail: Well… I don't think we will meet again. He is not from Sydney… just a visitor.

[English: Ah yo... Don't be sad... Always have to believe... if it is your destiny. one day you'll meet again.. Ok lah... It's late now... shouldn't chat anymore... You better sleep early ok?]

[English: Ok... Nite]

Chris: Nite nite!!!

One week later, Abigail’s ankle is recovering but she is advised not to wear high heels. She is not impressed as she feels that she has more self confidence in high heels. On the way back from work, she receives a phone call.

Abigail: (Taking her mobile out from her hand bag) Hello, Abigail speaking.

Linda: Hi, it’s Linda here.

Abigail: Hi Linda, how’s going? I am on the way home now. Should be there in an hour.

Linda: Sorry… we have to cancel tonight’s dinner. John told me that he can't make it.

Abigail: Oh really??? What a shame. Oh well, the purpose is to catch up with him anyway. It doesn’t matter, we can arrange some other time. Can you cancel the restaurant then?

Linda: Yep. I’ll let you know if I have an update from him. Sorry for doing this to you on Friday night.

Abigail: That’s ok. Don’t worry… I am so used to being alone on Friday night. Hahaha …

Linda: OK. Got to go now. Have a great weekend. Bye …

Abigail: You too. Bye (Put the mobile phone back to the hand bag) (Walk back to her apartment)  [English: Have to eat dinner alone again]

(Abigail's Voice)

[English:  Now you know how sad my life is.... Except work... I have no one... always alone... Alone  to go home... eating alone]
